Updates from the IRTS
Well done again to everyone who completed the HAREC examination
recently. For IRTS members with new licences, please make sure to email
the IRTS membership records officer at memrecords /at/
irts.ie providing details of your new callsigns so we can update the
records. We encourage National Shortwave Listeners Club members who
receive new licences to update that team as well. Many thanks and well
done also to the IRTS exam board for yet another set of very
efficiently run examinations.
It is with some sadness that we say farewell to some additional
long-standing members who are stepping down from roles for personal and
other reasons. We extend our deepest thanks for their stalworth service
to the society to Seany Byrne EI2HZB, Robbie Phelan EI2IP, and Dave
Moore EI4BZ. Dave is still remaining on as chief Morse tester. They
have given endless hours, days, and years to the society which we are
very grateful for and is very much appreciated.
With this news, comes changes in roles and new opportunities to get
involved in the running of the IRTS. Committee member Howard EI9LC has
volunteered to take over the role of PRO. The role of vice president
will be filled at the next AGM. Two vacancies for committee members are
available, and we are seeking interested candidates. The IRTS also
wishes to fill the position of automatic station coordinator. It
primarily involves acting as a point of contact and coordinator between
ComReg, a technical panel, and the IRTS in relation to new or updated
automatic station licence requests. The workload is light and doesn't
require deep technical or policy expertise. Those interested in
learning more about these available opportunities are invited to
contact the IRTS Honorary Secretary via email to irts_secretary /at/
irts.ie
The IRTS news team will be taking a small break once again this year
over the Christmas period. The last 40m and 80m IRTS news bulletins for
2025 will be transmitted on Sunday, December 14th. There will be no
news bulletins on either Sunday December 21st or Sunday, December 28th.
Items for submission for Sunday December 14th should reach the news
editor by midnight on Thursday December 11th. Normal bulletins will
resume on Sunday, January 4th, 2026. Items for the news on Sunday
January 4th should reach the news editor by midnight on New Year's Day,
Thursday January 1st, 2026.

Tipperary Amateur Radio Group AGM
On Tuesday the 25th of November 2025 last, members of the Tipperary
Amateur Radio Group met at The Princess Bar in Clonmel at 8 p.m. for
their annual general meeting. This was a well-attended meeting with
group members travelling from Co. Kilkenny, Co. Cork, and Co. Waterford
joining their Co. Tipperary-based colleagues. Brian EI2JKB chaired this
very productive meeting welcoming all in attendance. Group Secretary
John EI7IG read the minutes from the previous 2024 AGM and Group
Treasurer Thomas EI2IT reported a very healthy financial situation
followed then by the election of the new committee.
A review of the year was discussed, highlighting the TARG attendance at
the IRTS Hamfest held in Mullingar last September as being very
productive for the group. The QSL cards for the special event callsign
EI-30-T commemorating the 30th Anniversary of TARG were still in demand
even though it is over a year since the callsign was last aired.
Upcoming activities for 2026 were also discussed at length and it was
announced that the TARG Christmas Party will take place on Saturday the
6th of December 2025 at Raheen House Hotel, Clonmel. It was also
decided that the venue for all future TARG meetings, will continue to
be held at The Princess Bar, Clonmel, Co Tipperary. The meeting
concluded at 10.30 p.m. when Chairman Brian EI2JKB thanked all for
their input and their attendance.
The new committee was elected as follows; Chairman Brian Kelly EI2JKB,
Vice Chairman Andy Jay EI5JF, Secretary John Ronan EI7IG, Treasurer
Thomas Hallinan EI2IT, and Group PRO Hugh O'Donnell EI2HI, and Events
and QSL Manager Paul Norris EI3ENB. For more information about T.A.R.G,
they can be contacted by email at ei7trg /at/ gmail.com and you can
follow them on their Facebook page under 'Tipperary Amateur Radio
Group'.
