    Next IRTS Committee Meeting

    The next IRTS Committee meeting will be an in-person meeting taking
    place on Saturday, November 22nd at 11:00 a.m. sharp in the Creggan
    Court Hotel, Kilmartin N6 Centre, Dublin Road, Athlone, Co. Westmeath.
    The Eircode is N37 YW25. All IRTS affiliated clubs are reminded that
    under Rule 16.1, the members in each affiliated club, society or other
    body may elect a representative and an alternate annually to attend
    IRTS Committee meetings both in-person and online. Clubs wishing to
    send a representative should notify the IRTS Secretary, Andy EI7IOB at
    irts_secretary /at/ irts.ie

    National Short Wave Listeners Club

    The National Short Wave Listeners Club reports a turnout of sixty
    students for the start of the new HAREC online course on Thursday last,
    October 30th. The course will run weekly on Thursdays with 25 classes
    finishing on May 7th, 2026. There are six juveniles attending the
    training.

    Several students were unable to attend the first session and it's still
    not too late to join the course. Anyone interested in joining should
    visit swl.ie and complete and submit the NSWLC membership
    form. Membership is free for Irish Radio Transmitters Society members,
    and you can join the IRTS at www.irts.ie/join

    A major milestone was reached during the past week when the total
    numbers who had interacted with the HAREC training, which commenced on
    November 4th, 2000, surpassed the 500 mark. The club would like to
    thank everybody who helped out in any way over the past five years.

    South Eastern Amateur Radio Group EI2WRC

    The next physical meeting of the EI2WRC group will take place on
    Monday, November 24th at 8 p.m. sharp at the South East Technological
    University, Netlabs Research and Innovation Building, SETU West Campus,
    Carriganore, Waterford. The Eircode is X91 WR86. New members or anyone
    that has an interest in amateur radio or communications in general are
    very welcome to come along. SWLs are in particular very welcome to

    Shannon Basin Radio Club SSB Nets

    The next Shannon Basin Radio Club SSB DX net takes place on the 80m
    band on Thursday night, November 6th. The net frequency will be in the
    region of 3.775MHz starting from 9 p.m. local time. Everyone is welcome
    to call in and SWL reports are also most welcome via email to admin
    /at/ sbrc.ie

    VHF/Microwave News

    South Dublin Radio Club operate a 2-metre net on 144.330 MHz USB. It
    runs on weeknights from 20:00 to 21:00 hrs. local time on Monday,
    Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Wednesday nights
    from 21:00 to 21:30 local time, a six-metre net operates after the
    2-metre net concludes. The 6-metre net is on 50.165 MHz using USB. The
    club reports that the net has been reasonably well supported, but if
    more stations join in, the net could be extended to 22:00 hrs.

    Round 11 of the European FT8 and FT4 activity series continues on
    Wednesday November 5th on the 2m band. Each event sees plenty of
    activity on the band and it is a good opportunity to learn more about
    digital modes and the performance of your VHF station. Further

    A global Automatic Packet Reporting System or APRS net called
    APRSThursday has grown to over 700 stations worldwide. This net takes
    place each Thursday for 24 hours. Information about how to get involved
    may be found at aprsph.net

    For APRS operators seeking more of a challenge, the Japanese BOTAN
    satellite launched in mid-September of this year carries an amateur
    radio digipeater with a camera. Current reports indicate that its CW
    beacon can be easily received on 437.375 MHz plus or minus Doppler
    during passes. Its 1200 baud digipeater on 145.825MHz is planned to be
    switched on a scheduled basis with a maximum time of 720 minutes during
    each activation.

    Contest and Events

    For those that took part in the recent IRTS 80m counties contest,
    please note that the deadline for logs is November 5th. Further details
    may be found at irts.ie/contests

    Entries should be submitted to the IRTS contest manager via email to
    contest_manager /at/ irts.ie

    The next contest in the United Kingdom and Ireland Contest Club 2025 to
    2026 series of 80m contests takes place on Wednesday 5th November 2025.
    The start time is 20:00 UTC using SSB and it runs for one hour.

    The Worked All Europe DX RTTY Contest commences at 00:00UTC on Saturday
    the 8th of November running until 23:59UTC the following night.

    The RSGB 1.8MHz Affiliated Society or Club Calls Contest takes place
    next Saturday, the 8th of November 2025. This runs from 20:00 UTC until
    23:00 UTC. CW contest activity will be between 1870kHz and 1980kHz and
    SSB activity will be found between 1892kHz and 1990kHz. Self-spotting
    is permitted, and further information may be found at rsgbcc.org
