I've started using my old Olympus digital camera (an E-M1) again, and looking at ways to connect to the computer (a Mac Mini M4) to upload photos.
Is the OM Workspace the best software to use? I've found that it does work using wireless, but it's all a bit clunky. I'd rather use wireless and not connect cables or SD
cards.

Since you're committed to wireless, you're basically looking at two paths. The first is to stick with the official app. As you've found, it can be slow and a bit finicky, but it's designed specifically to integrate with the camera's features and can handle things like remote shooting.
The second path, which a lot of people prefer for just transferring photos, is to look at a more generic solution. If your Mac and camera are on the same Wi-Fi network, you might be able to connect to the camera's built-in wireless storage feature as if it were a server. It's a bit technical, but it can sometimes be more reliable than the official app.
Another solid option a lot of photographers use is to get a cheap Wi-Fi-enabled SD card. You pop it in the camera, and it creates its own network for your Mac to connect to and grab the files, completely bypassing the camera's own software. It often works more smoothly.
It's really a trade-off between the integrated features of OM Workspace and the potentially simpler, more robust transfer of a third-party method. Might be worth trying the server connection first to see if that speeds things up for you.
