The Fort Morgan RV park was pretty amazing. I think there is only 34
sites, but the place has gone under a recent renovation and everything
looks great and is well kept. All sites have full hookups. Sites were
all graded properly to have the back of the RV needing little jack to
get leveled. Not super large sites, but adequate. The showers and
bathrooms were like a damn spa. I usually don't use park facilities,
but at this place I did. Had a very nice and clean clothes washing room
with new looking machines. Nice dock looking into the bay about 100'
long which you can fish off. I did buy an Alabama license, but the
campground does buy a site license so you could fish off the pier
without purchasing one for yourself. Great place I would not hesitate
    to go back to.

That said, we wanted to check out a park to the east called "Gulf State
Park." I didn't know they had a campground there, but when we got there
they let us look around and it was absolutely the biggest damn
campground I've ever seen. I think there is over 600 sites and they are
all full hookups, even sewer. The place was awesome and the sites were
at least twice as large as the place we stayed. This park is amazing
with over 30 miles of paved bike trails going through all different
types of areas, like wooded, ponds, beach, etc. They also have an
enormous pool for the campers, too. If the sandy Gulf of America is
more to your liking, it is right on the Gulf and the beach is amazing.
The place had many campers, but there did seem to be availability. I'd
say it was about 65% full. No crazies either, people were very nice. I
would definitely go to this place, and because of the size of the spots,
I might even prefer it. Just an amazing campground, especially for a
    state owned facility.

We spent one day taking the Ferry to Dauphin Island and exploring.
Toured Fort Gaines and enjoyed that. There is a campground on the
island, it looked OK, but not up to the quality of the other two I
mentioned. We did a hike through the Audubon Bird Sanctuary and it was
good. Saw a breeding pair of Osprey, gators, many turtles, and lots of
other cool birds. It too is right on the gulf, so there are shore birds
on the south end by the beach. Went to the West End Beach, which is as
far as you can go, and there was a huge area of parking at the lovely
    beach.

Back on the eastern side of the bay, we spent part of one day at eh
Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. Nice little zoo and a good way to spend a
relaxing day looking at the animals. They do a pretty good job there
making the animals accessible for viewing.

Had dinner one night at Jesse's and it was amazing. Expensive, I guess,
    but amazing. <https://jessesrestaurant.com/>

I wanted to just have some shrimp and we kept passing this local joint
called Fort Morgan Pizza that had signs up about their shrimp. It was
$30 for about a dozen large shrimp, 2 potatoes, butter, cocktail sauce,
and a tasty piece of sausage. It was very good and got our fix there.

We also did go to New Orleans one day and had an interesting time.
Can't imagine I'd spend much time there, but the wife loved the place, naturally.

Got out of Alabama just in time. Left last Monday and it was Wednesday
they had the monster hail in Texas, Tornadoes in Mississippi, and sever flooding in Alabama. Thank God we didn't get that treatment again!

Alas, it's good to be home. Spring is my favorite time here, but I'm
    ready to get back out.

Thanks for the great report! I'm entertaining the idea of an
extended trip (six weeks or so) this coming Jan-Mar in the south
and southwest. It would probably include another injection for my
wife in Pensacola, so the tips should come in handy.

Glad you got out before severe weather hit!

Pensacola is just a hop skip and short jump up the road. I would
definitely rather stay there in Alabama than in Florida. Wish I could
go for that long, but I think I'd get in trouble for that. 8-(

Yeah, I think I pointed out how close they are a while back. Out
of curiousity, is there anything other than the park you described
that would cause you to prefer Alabama?

Oh, if we follow through on a longer trip in the winter, it would
be both of us. A good part of the experiment would be seeing
whether the marriage would survive that long in close quarters.
    Lol

To come clean, I wasn't sure the wife would be willing to skip the
winter concert of the choir we sing in, and offered to let her fly
down to meet me for a short portion of a longer trip. She wasn't
    having any of that!

For me the main thing was the smaller crowds, and along with that the
lack of crazy teens running wild. I stayed at Panama City Beach and it
was much wilder. Call it diversity if you want, but it wasn't for me.
I just want to feel safe with my family at all times. I feel that is
better in Alabama. That said, I have been through the Pensacola area
driving, but never actually checked the area out. YMMV

Wish I could go for that long, but I think I'd get in trouble

I'm sure if you get to do it, you'll be fine and have a great time.
Your wife sounds like a very supportive partner and willing to try new
    things. A great adventure.

MY brother who moved to Florida, sold his house in Illinois and stayed
with his wife down in Florida in his Class A for over a year. He openly admits it was a strain at times with not being able to get much time
apart, at least apart very far. I was glad to see him come visit us,
because I know it gave him a bad taste in his mouth as far as RVing
goes, but deep down they both love it and can hopefully get back to more
    of it.

Just let her know the offer is still on the table and start planning.
You can always cancel, but the more you get down on paper the better it
    will look!
