Ages ago I heard a version of this song inspired by the James Blish
series "Cities in Flight". It was, as the title suggests, about riding
on the city of New Orleans, as the city was transported through space by
a spindizzy (Blish's antigravity and FTL device). I haven't actually
read the books, so I might not be using the terminology properly. Maybe someday.

    Anyone know this song? Thanks!

I think it's been done at least twice. One is by Charles A. Belov and is
in the NESFA Hymnal, Volume 2. I'm fairly sure I've heard a different
version as well, maybe by Lee Gold.

    Maybe
    someday.

There's also a version based on Anne McCaffrey's Brain / Brawn universe:
"I'm the Brain they call the City of New Orleans"
