Unrelated, but I know I still "owe" updates to Windbags.

    Title: Apocalypse
    ttto: The Wellerman
    <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTOZtqyxXlc> (starts about 50
    seconds in)
(For more information about the original, see <https://folksong.org.nz/soon_may_the_wellerman/index.html>)

It seems the cosmos has its mirth
We humans have filled all the Earth
But now we know our own true worth
And so it's time to go

    (Chorus after each verse)
    Soon may apocalypse come
And clear the Earth of human scum
We've made the world a slum
Let's end this tale of woe

We've fouled the water, fouled the sky
And we can see the end is nigh
Perhaps it's time to say goodbye
    We've nowhere left to grow

We burned the oil, burned the coal
Made hell on Earth and sold our soul
It's clear we have no self-control
    Our heat death's apropos

We killed off plants and birds and more
We're still extincting by the score
Let's leave and firmly shut the door
    Let other species grow

We kill each other every day
So why not just go all the way?
And if we use the nukes to slay
We'll go out with a glow

Scansion note about the 3rd line of the chorus: I didn't match the
original because I think they were cramming in extra syllables. (The
rest of the song is iambic.) It can be brought back to match with a
    two-word change:
We've made all the world just a slum
    (spondee and two anapests)

guessing an author's opinions from his novels.
