• Great advice: "Buy anything you can find conducted by R. and S."

    From Roland van Gaalen@vangaalenusenet@gmail.com to rec.music.classical on Wed Jul 24 18:47:13 2024
    From Newsgroup: rec.music.classical

This is just to illustrate that the archive of
    rec.music.classical.recordings can be very useful.

Two outstanding contributors whose opinions I trust (given my own
tastes) have given excellent advice, it turns out, at least from my perspective:

Buy anything you can find conducted by R. and S. respectively.

    (That's my paraphrase, sligthly simplified.)

Today I ordered M.'s symphonies #39-41 of both (on separate CD sets, I
mean) and also a fairly recent B. cycle by S.

I already had S.'s recording of #3, which used to be quite famous on
RMCR as well as some other recordings.

As far as R. is concerned, two of his M. recordings (#6 and #9) are very difficult to find, even on eBay.

His M. box is out of print and not available on eBay.

(To avoid tiresome discussions I refer to the composers and conductors concerned just by their last initials.)

    Just this is tiresome.
So nobody knows what you are talking about?

    (S = Savall?)

    Of course

It seems you enjoy talking to yourself
a lot! Book yourself into a room next
to Marc S so you can both argue with
yourselves at the same time! The more
Haloperidol is consumed the lower its
    price to the clinics!

    Cheers!

I much enjoyed a live performance of Beethoven 9, conducted by Savall, recently.

    ignore them.

Bad answer; not 'maybe' but 'obviously'.

The only candidates are Hans Richter, Simon Rattle, Fritz Reiner,
Gennadi Rozhdestvensky and Maximilien de Robespierre, but they can be
    ruled out like all others.

What does "leaving" mean for a usenet

    "R" is a semi-conductor at best.

As you probably all know, "R" is
    the symbol for resistence. The
    symbol for conductance is "G".
    Real conductors' names start
    with G!

    Cheers!
