This performance of the F minor concerto 1056 has the tiniest ensemble
I've ever seen; five fiddles and an excellent harpsichord.

This is probably the same size of the ensemble "il pomo d'oro" with
    Francesco Corti on PentaTone.
In the booklet with 1056 he writes "the writing [of the concertos 1054
and 1056] resembles that of a keyboard quintet rather than that of a
    concerto.

So far they have recorded the concertos for solo harpsichord on 3
discs. My favorites for this music. I'm still waiting for the double etc. concertos.

I believe most of these concertos were originally composed with another
solo instrument in mind? So the (very busy) D minor 1052 has been
transcribed back for violin - not sounding very persuasive IMHO. It's
not a fave of mine in any form - my bad.

AFAIK all those harpsichord concertos are arrangements of concertos for
other instruments. 1052 seemed to be an exception, but indeed, there are "reconstructions" (and recordings) for violin. Also a version for organ
    and strings.
1052 however is my favorite harpsichord concerto.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpsichord_Concerto_in_D_minor,_BWV_1052 concerto 1052 is an arrangement of a concerto for organ and strings.

"BWV 1052 has been widely believed to be a transcription of a lost
concerto for another instrument. Beginning with Wilhelm Rust and Philipp Spitta, many scholars suggested that the original melody instrument was
the violin, because of the many violinistic figurations in the solo partrCostring-crossing, open string techniquesrCoall highly virtuosic."

But many other opinions exist, like: https://thelistenersclub.com/2023/11/27/bachs-violin-concerto-in-d-minor-bwv-1052r-virtuosity-and-fire/

It's a great piece, but its relentlessness drives me nuts.
It's like the first Sturm und Drang music.

My GF however likes it a lot, too. So what do I know?

No need for anyone or anything to drive you nuts.
You have been always nuts since birth.

GFs always know best. Toe the line! ;-)

The D minor key is a dead giveaway. It's the ideal key for the fiddle.

The D minor concerto is very interesting piece in its Sturm und Drang
and virtuosity. Unfortunately these are two (or rather three) things I personally don't like much. However, there are enough people who do.

That's right. Even Hurwitz seems to like this concerto ;-) But he thinks
that the rather stiff and sluggish recording by Leonhardt on SEON is the
    best.
BTW in the booklet of that recording is written that the original
version was a violon concerto; Bach wrote 3 versions: violin, "organ"
    and finally harpsichord.

The only concerto for harpsichod by Bach that originally was conceived
for harpsichord is concerto BWV 1061 for 2 harpsichords.
