Does the charge wire from the voltage regulator run directly to the
battery or is it switched thru the key ? I'm considering re-purposing
one to use on my Yanmar YM1500D compact tractor since I'm not sure how
the original system was wired and there's very little info on these old
gray market tractors . I was going to use the new one* I just got , then remembered I have a good 22 amp unit from my Shovelhead days .
*I bought one because my Ultra is overcharging . Haven't done any diagnostics , could be as simple as loose mount bolts on the existing reg .

It goes right to the battery, via the main circuit breaker. There
should be nothing else between voltage regular output and battery
    positive pole.

Thanks Phil , I thought so but wasn't sure - and too lazy to go out
and trace that wire on one of my bikes . I scored this compact tractor -
a Yanmar YM1500D - for a good price and snatched it up . The big problem
I'm having is that these are "gray market" machines and what little
printed information there is is in either Vietnamese or Chinese . I can
trace a wire on the schematic but with the notes in pictographs ...

Is 22 amps enough? When you turn the lights on you may be using another
    9-11 amps.

Well , it's a 2 cylinder diesel so ... the only load will be lights ,
aside from the starter . And it starts easy . This machine is pretty
awesome , originally designed for working in rice paddies . This model
was made from 1975-1979 but they made a shitload and a half of them so
parts are available . It's the perfect companion for my JD 317 . The JD
breaks the path and hauls in the chainsaws and other tools . The Yanmar
hauls the logs out of the woods to be turned into firewood . And it's 4
wheel drive so I won't be spinnin' my wheels .

    I am so ashamed of myself , I haven't offered drinks . Well , there's
this Mason jar of local UNCUT 'shine I've been saving ... Shirley , keep pourin' until it's gone or everybody's passed out . I know where to get

No , and neither does my starting up both bikes and letting them run
until fully warmed up . Seems like there's always six other things more important than goin' for a long ride . Like my neighbor dumping about 2
cords - so far - of firewood on me for free . HELLYEA I want it ! We had
a strong storm with high winds that downed a lot of trees in parts of
town a couple of weeks ago . My neighbor is cleaning up part of the mess
and I'm getting free firewood .
Yes dear , my back hurts . Yes dear my arms are sore . And no dear ,
that firewood ain't gonna split and stack itself . I ain't gonna
complain somebody else did 2/3 of the work !

Here , try this lemonade flavored 'shine ... Hillbillies make the

I have been thinking about it. I had a 1976 Honda CL350 that was a
scrambler back in the late 80s or early 90s for a short time. My CL had
what we used to call "street knobbies." I burned it up on the freeway,
and traded it in on a VT500. Not long after that I started always
having 2-3 bikes around. Right now I have three, a Paughco springer
front end, a Harley sidecar, and a bunch of misc parts I should put on
eBay if I could remember what came off of what bike.

A few months ago I found a Joker Machine brake cylinder I never
installed laying out in the dirt in my back yard. I have no idea how it
got there. Last I recall it was hanging on the pegboard in the back of
my shop. Now its in one of the plastic tote bins labeled misc bike parts.

Shirley, Pendelton 1910 please. Leave the bottle for anybody who wants
    a top off.

I'm getting the urge to ride again. I remember the panic (yes panic,
okay maybe just extreme anxiety) last few times I rode, but it doesn't
    seem real anymore.

    Uncle Mikes Snag style.

I was thinking about fixing up that little Twinstar. Its most expensive issues are all cosmetic. Might need a new carb boot after sitting 20+
years. A buddy brought it over at my old house and asked me to help him
get it running. At the time it just had a gummed up carb. I dipped the
air filter in motor oil, and it choked the carb enough to run. I told
him to pick up a few parts and come over so I could show him how to fix
it. End of 2005 when I moved I told him to either come get his bike or
give me the title, because I wasn't going to be his moving service and
storage locker. He brought me the title.. and the parts I'd told him to
buy a few years earlier, and some new tires. Not sure those tires are
any good after 20 years hanging in my shop. The big has been sitting so
long I the lead plates for the battery are showing through the case.

I'm a pretty big guy for such a small bike, but I bet it will still be
fun to ride, and I am thinking about making a mild (very mild) track in
my back yard for the NAU engineering dept's baja go-cart team. Maybe a
short oval or triangle with a couple gentle moguls and a hole or two I
can turn into mud pits. A place for them to do real testing. I just
dropped one of the kid's old mini rails (being generous) off out back of
the engineering building for them on Monday for them to scavenge for
    parts.

Did you make a scrambler out of it?-a I could see how this could be fun.

-a Sweet ! Kid up the street when I was a teen had a 350 Scrambler . He
cut the muffler off and installed Snuff-R-Not washers . I was a bit
    envious , riding Dad's 150 Suzuki 2-stroker street bike .

when I was a kid I first had a Suzuki AC-50 Maverick just like this one.

    <https://www.pinterest.com/pin/1970-suzuki-ac50-maverick--536843218073217067/>

Damn little thing could go 65 MPH. just spent hours and hours riding the
thing when I was a kid, and really got me hooked on bikes. I worked as
a kid, and when I finally had enough money I upgraded to a Honda CL 100.
Bike didn't impress me near as much as I thought it would, and
eventually jumped up to a Suzuki TS-185. For a kid of about 14-15 years
old, I thought I really had some shit there. Ha!

When I got older and decided to get back riding again, I did get myself
a Honda CL 350 Scrambler just because I thought they would be the end
all when I was a kid. It didn't take long for me to realize it was just
too damn small for my 6' 6" body and just not worth hanging on to. Good memories, though!

I have been thinking about it.-a I had a 1976 Honda CL350 that was a scrambler back in the late 80s or early 90s for a short time.-a My CL had what we used to call "street knobbies."-a I burned it up on the freeway,
and traded it in on a VT500.-a Not long after that I started always
having 2-3 bikes around.-a Right now I have three, a Paughco springer
front end, a Harley sidecar, and a bunch of misc parts I should put on
eBay if I could remember what came off of what bike.

I have been working hard to eliminate the things I don't need. Only
making marginal progress. Fuck it I figure. If I don't get to it, they
can just get a dumpster when I pass.

A few months ago I found a Joker Machine brake cylinder I never
installed laying out in the dirt in my back yard.-a I have no idea how it got there.-a Last I recall it was hanging on the pegboard in the back of
my shop.-a Now its in one of the plastic tote bins labeled misc bike parts.

Shirley, Pendelton 1910 please.-a Leave the bottle for anybody who wants
    a top off.

I will, thanks. That's probably how that brake cylinder got there.

I'm getting the urge to ride again.-a I remember the panic (yes panic,
okay maybe just extreme anxiety) last few times I rode, but it doesn't
    seem real anymore.

Every time I consider whether or not it's time to give up being on two
wheels, we take a ride and have such a great time. We're going again tomorrow, and I just tell myself to slow down and just enjoy the time.
It has been working, and I hope I never feel the need to not have a bike around. I've tossed around getting something smaller than the Ultra,
but the appeal of that is wanting.

The wife suggested last time I allow her to get a bike. I know plenty
of women ride, but she's never done it and at 60 years of age, I think
it is ridiculous to think about starting now. Not aware of the dangers,
to damn small, and just too much of a "girl" for me to be comfortable
with that. She can just sit on the back as far as I'm concerned.

I finished that Pendelton during my rant, so let me get the next one.

My wife rode for a long time. She started out with a GN-250 Suzuki,
upgraded to a 600VLX Honda, and then went to a Fatboy. That Fatboy was
the most uncomfortable bike I ever rode, and I've ridden a few weird
crotch rockets. It impressed me with how tough she was. She started
worrying about her back and bought an 03 Road Glide with a sidecar.
Then she worried about her back some more and quit riding. I stripped
the side hack off and road it for a little, but DAMN! That is one heavy
bike. I think it is nearly 200 lbs heavier than my 97 Electra Glide.
My cousin on the other side of the country has her Road Glide now. When
I put it up for sale the constant negging online was crazy. When my
cousin asked about it I told him, "This is the friends and family price.
The responses are yes or no."

He said, "Let me go and ask my wife." Okay, I can accept that one.

I finished that Pendelton during my rant, so let me get the next one.

    Cheers. Thank you. Another?
