    From Newsgroup: rec.games.trivia

These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2025-10-06,
    and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of the Cellar Rats, and are
used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. The posting and tabulation of
current-events questions is independent of the concurrent posting
of other rounds. For further information please see my 2026-03-10
companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian Inquisition
    (QFTCI*)".

    * Game 4, Round 2 - Literature - Non-Fiction History Books

These questions are about non-fiction books about history. Many
have been best-sellers, some have been culturally and politically
impactful, and some have inspired popular movies. In each case,
give the title (if there is a subtitle you need not include it).

    1. American journalist and historian Robert K. Massie was inspired
to write this 1967 best-selling biography of the last Russian
royal family after his own son was diagnosed with hemophilia.

    2. This 2017 best-selling book by journalist David Grann centers
on a series of murders of newly wealthy Osage people that took
place in Oklahoma in the early 1920s after vast oil deposits
    were discovered on their land.

    3. This 2015 best-seller by classicist Mary Beard is an overview
of the Roman Empire from its early history as a small Iron Age
    village to a dominant empire.

    4. Isabel Wilkerson's 2010 book is a detailed account of the Great
Migration of African-Americans from the Southern states to the
Northeast, West, and Midwest between 1915 and 1970.

    5. This 1960 best-selling history of Nazi Germany was based in part
on journalist William L. Shirer's recollections of his 6 years
reporting from Germany for UPI and CBS radio. Though it's
still in print, historians are now critical of the work.

    6. Robert A. Caro's 1974 biography of New York City municipal
bureaucrat and urban planner Robert Moses won the Pulitzer
Prize in 1975 and has been thought to be an influential source
for city planners and politicians in the United States.

    7. This 2005 work by historian Doris Kearns Goodwin is a biography
of Abraham Lincoln and also of several members of his cabinet
who represented different political factions. It also loosely
formed the basis of Steven Spielberg's 2012 movie "Lincoln".

    8. Erik Larson's best-selling 2003 historical book is set during
Chicago's 1893 World's Columbian Exposition and tells the story
of Henry Howard Holmes, considered to be the first serial killer
    in the United States.

    9. The thesis of Barbara Tuchman's influential 1978 work is that
the crisis of the late Middle Ages in 14th century Europe was
reflected in the tumultuous events of the 20th century.

    10. David McCullough's 2001 biography raised the popular profile of
this early US president in the public imagination and was adapted
into a limited HBO series. It won the Pulitzer Prize in 2002.
