* Game 7, Round 7 - Canadiana Entertainment- SCTV Characters
Arguably the best sketch comedy-show ever broadcast on TV, the
Canadian classic "SCTV" ran from 1976 to '84 on Canadian and later
US networks, giving us some of the funniest and most memorable
characters ever seen on television. We'll describe one of the
many characters (and sometimes the actor who played them) seen on
the show. You give us their name. To repeat, we're always looking
for the name of the character, not the actor who played them.
1. This husband-and-wife team owned an organ emporium which they
promoted through their TV ads. The husband played the organ
in the background, while the wife did most of the talking and
sales pitch. Name them (first names and surname required).
2. Played by Eugene Levy, this funny-man was the loud, obnoxious,
and rather sleazy stand-up comic whose trade-mark tag-line was
the phrase "How are Ya!"
3. These two brothers had their own TV show featuring polka music
in which one played the accordion and the other the clarinet.
Who were they? (Surname required.)
4. Usually shown in a wheelchair, this business executive was the
owner of the SCTV network.
5. Played by Andrea Martin, this newly arrived immigrant woman was
often shown as a cleaning lady, wearing a scarf or kerchief over
her head. She spoke English with a thick Balkan or Baltic accent
that made her words virtually unintelligible. What was her name?
6. This nerdy young man had a large, spiky cowlick in his hair
and often used the phrase "I must say".
7. She was the station manager of STCV, noted for her trademark
leopard-skin coat and hat.
8. He was Dr. Tongue's (of Dr. Tongue's 3-D House of Pancakes)
sidekick.
9. Played by Catherine O'Hara, she was a sexy and precocious
singer and dancer whose favorite expression was "I want to have
your children". Name her.
10. This SCTV regular played many different characters on the show
throughout its history. His persona was generally that of
a rude, nasty, and sarcastic individual. The roles he played
included the host of cooking show, a nighttime man-in-the-street
reporter, a restaurant reviewer, and an educator called
Mr. Science. Who was he?
