Arkham Horror The Roleplaying Game Brings A Fresh Twist To The Tabletop
Series
By Josh Coulson
The fate of Arkham is truly in your hands via the series' new tabletop
RPG releasing this summer
Arkham Horror has been a part of the tabletop world for almost two
decades, its board games and expansions, and then its card game,
cultivating a loyal following. Now Fantasy Flight is looking to branch
out even further by pulling RPG fans into its Arkham Horror universe. Announcing Arkham Horror The Roleplaying game, this next chapter,
although very different from what has come before, aims to appeal to
both Arkham Horror stalwarts and RPG aficionados alike.
Arkham Horror The Roleplaying Game's starter set will be available to
buy from August 2, 2024, at which time Gen Con attendees will get the
chance to take it for a spin. All of the Arkham Horror elements
synonymous with the series are here, but instead of moving your assigned character around a board, you will become them. Embark on a journey with twists and turns, your decisions and dice rolls determining what happens
next, and the fate of Arkham itself.
Not only do Arkham Horror's creators claim potential players of the
series' first roleplaying game don't need prior RPG experience, but you
also don't need to know anything about Arkham Horror. With board games,
card games, and expansions, getting into a series with so much history
can be a little daunting. Whether you're into RPGs or not, if you've
Arkham Horror has appealed to you before but you didn't know where to
begin, here's your chance to hop aboard the bandwagon.
You naturally won't need to already own anything else from the Arkham
Horror series to play its RPG. This is entirely new and everything
you'll need to start playing is included with the starter set pictured
above. The game master's board, a 48-page adventure booklet, and five character sheets so up to six people can play (five characters plus the
game master). It also boasts a dynamic pool system that claims to keep
things simple for beginners via its six-sided dice, which are also
included, but gets strategically deep as you become more adept at the game.
One of the bigger turn-offs when it comes to getting into RPGs can be
how much time they take to play. Arkham Horror's RPG has that covered
too. The Roleplaying Game is split into ten scenes, each of them taking roughly an hour to play. That means you can play for an hour at a time
or smash through your entire adventure in one epic session. Truly trying
to appeal to all Arkham Horror fans and RPG players and launching on
August 2. How much the starter set will cost hasn't yet been revealed.
