I should maybe stop getting myself all those books that just give me
ideas. I recently got myself a German copy of Perils on the Sea of Rhun,
and now I am thinking that maybe I should run a MERP game in the area.
Rhun as a setting is quite nice because nobody really knows much about
it because nobody really cared. Although I found the weird lack of
context that the Sea of Rhun has on the map of Middle-Earth always quite fascinating.
Anyway, there were plans to have an expanded setting book of that for
ICE's MERP during 2nd edition, but the loss of the license in the wake
of the movie's kind of brought an end to that. The book has been
published as a fan-supplement afterwards though and is available online
as The Inland Sea.
It still is missing some of the more mechanical parts of the original
Perils on the Sea of Rhun book though. That one was done for a very
DnD-like experience, so it had all sorts of encounter tables that just
don't seem to be in the newer book.
