• Shed a tear for poor Nvidia, won't you?

Well, it's good to see the AI RAMpocalypse isn't only fucking ordinary
users. Because RAM and DRAM prices have skyrocketed, it's also costing
nvidia close to $900 billion dollars. How? Because they have to pay
for the RAM when users make warrantied claims against broken GPUs. You
(or, more likely, AI and crypto-bros) send them their broken card, and
then they gotta fix it... which may mean replacing the RAM, or just
sending out a new card. But either way, Nvidia has to pay for the RAM
on that card, and the prices of the stuff have gone up dramatically.

How dramatically? Well, as stated, a recent report by Warranty Week
indicates that in 2025 it cost Nvidia $894 million USD for these
replacements. The year prior? $81 million.*

Of course, this isn't /entirely/ due to the outrageous RAM price
increases. It also likely has a lot to do with the increased RAM on
modern GPUs, and how many more GPUs Nvidia is selling to corporations
which end up driving these cards very, very hard (an average gamer
probably pushes his GPU moderately hard a few hours a week; the AIbros
run these things full-throttle 24/7). But the RAM costs definitely are
    a major factor.

Still, it's hard to feel any sympathy for Nvidia and the other tech
companies (especially since that $894 million dollar cost is a drop in
the bucket of Nvidia's $4,400,000 million dollar valuation). But it's
nice to see them suffering even a little bit, like the rest of us
rubes. Something about petards and hoisting, I think.

Bad Spalls! Bad, bad Spalls! Not only do you keep lighting the grail-shaped beacon, but you keep posting articles to rec.games.frp.dnd that are supposed to
be posted elsewhere. Check what newsgroup you're posting to BEFORE
hitting send, you foolish, silly person!

The beatings aren't helping; I keep making the same mistake. Any advice on how to 'correct' this bad habit? Maybe something involving hydrochloric acid? I'm open to suggestions. ;-)

(Usual apologies, of course, although even I admit they're starting to sound
a bit hollow after all these repetitions)

I do! I do! I really, really do! But I want it to be active so we can
talk about the D&D, and not about video-games (I already have a place
    for that ;-)

Speaking of the D&D... erm... no, I still got nuthin'. I've no neat
stories to tell, no news to deliver, and I don't think anybody wants
to hear about my old campaigns.

Although... the first adventure I ever wrote (and DM'd) was basically
a rip-off of Thundercats, didja know that? Not so much the furry
    animal-men aspect as the demon-mummy-in-the-desert. Technically, it's
still canon in my existing game-world too.

You know, just in case you were wondering.

I recently have been thinking about adding a lot more of that Saturday
Morning stuff into my campaign. And yes, Mumm-Ra, but I was also
thinking about using Silverhawks as an inspiration for a Spelljammer
setting. Not so much Galleons in Space, and more like... something a bit
more modern. Maybe doesn't quite fit with the rest of Spelljammer.
Silverhawks has a very 70s comic book aesthetic to it, so maybe it would
the ships to emulate would be more the stuff from the Cold War.

Oooh, I like that idea. I was always a fan of Spelljammer. It was an
absolutely ridiculous setting, of course, but that was half the fun...
and you could go in so many directions with it. It could be "Star
Trek"; it could be "Star Wars"; it could be the 18th century colonial
era from Earth history. Or, you know, just typical D&D malarky except
the dungeons and castles were all floating about in space.

Silverhawks --which as often as not was noir-ish 1930s detective
stories-- could fit as well as anything else (with a good dose of
superhero too). But would the Silverhawks be supporting characters, or
the main characters? That's the biggest question. And would their
powers be innate, or through magical items?

If innate, they're probably not human. Perhaps less silver-Hawks and
    more Silver-Aarakocra. ;-)

Say, wasn't the robotic (e.g., metal golem) villain /already/ flying
    around in a squid-shaped space-ship? I mean, if that's not a sign
you're on the right track with your idea, then I don't know what is!

There used to be a kids cartoon about the gummy bear candy. I don't
really know anything about the show, but I know it featured an island
in the ocean that was inexplicably surrounded by waterfalls. I totally
stole that concept and snuck it into my gameworld too. It was just too
awesome an idea to leave to the kiddies ;-)

Here's a picture: tell me that doesn't deserve to be in a D&D
    campaign! https://www.frankshemanpage.net/gummibears_ocean02.JPG

Hmmm. I see it as some sort of Lovecraftian wizard-creature. Something
hooded but with lizard-like skin maybe? Powerful in illusion magics
but vulnerable to fire. It uses its power to bribe powerful
businessmen in the game world with gold, except most of that gold
doesn't actually exist (not that the businessmen know that... yet. But
boy will they be mad when the glamour spell fades ;-). The PCs only

Aymdee, who hopes to usurp Nvidia's place.

The worst thing is, 3 times per round, it can use a legendary action
called "You're doing it wrong" which causes you to catch fire for 6d4
fire damage, and 1,000 gp disappears from your inventory. It also can
spawn 1d4 crypto bros on its turn as a magic action, if it so desires.
Its melee attack is weak. The crypto bros do the real damage.

Don't get me started on the stat block for a crypto bro. (Because it's
    your turn!)
