June 10, 2024 by Ashley Pelletier

If you want a new (old) way to invite all of your pals over for a new
D&D campaign, yourCOre in the right place.

The U.S. Postal Service is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dungeons
& Dragons with a lineup of 10 new stamps. The stamps will debut on Aug.
1 at Gen Con Indy. If you are in the area but donrCOt have passes to the
show, you can also grab the stamps at the Indianapolis Main Post Office
across the street from Lucas Oil Stadium.

Collectors can get autographs from Greg Breeding, the art director
behind the stamps, at 10 a.m. following the launch. The D&D stamps are
being issued as Forever stamps and will always be equal to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce rate.

Well, I know what my cousins are sending me for XMas now. They seem to
think I'm a secret philatelist and any time there's a series of stamps
based on a subject I like, I get a bunch of the things as a gift. And
I'm pretty sure everyone in the family knows I like D&D... so I guess
I'm gonna get me some stamps.

(and now I won't even be able to use them as postage ;-)

philately is one of those hobbies that really got the short end of the
stick the last few years I think. It used to be it was THE hobby for
everyone. I had an album as a kid, my gran had multiple ones, the local department store had it's own little philately section where you could buy
a ton of worthless stamps and the hope to strike it rich for a few marks.
and by now it kind of went away. to the point that my son doesn't even
know why you would collect them in the first place.

anyway, to get back to the topic: I find it curious that they advertise signing hours for the art director of the stamps. I know stamps are a big thing in some circles, but from what I have seen those illustrations used
are classic illustrations from DnD. Why would I want them signed by the
guy who chose which ones to use?

I think I know why I never filled more than half an album with them, I
never really saw the romance that other people see in stamps.

Will they work as the material component for the Sending spell?

Apparently the UK is getting into it too. Royal Mail is also issuing
    D&D 50th Anniversary Celebration stamps. https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/to-celebrate-50-years-of-dandd-royal-mail-is-selling-monster-stamps-you-can-keep-in-a-mimics-mouth/

I wonder what the crossover between philatalists and D&D players is?
Both are pretty nerdy, and are a hobby that /looks/ affordable at the
start but before you know it, you're in hock trying to keep up with
    all the newest products ;-)
