About a decade ago I posted my stat findings about a fall NABC contest called the "Nail" championship. It used deals preselected by someone at the ACBL HQ, rather than ordinary random selection. In this instance it ended after the Seattle fall 2011 NABC, and after a six year run.
Well, I recently used the same form of stat analysis on the NABC records for the past summer NABC in Las Vegas. I began with the day-by-day records, and then the two-day championships. Those championship hand records looked odd enough to me that I extended looking at their prior year hand records. I was able to go back four years before discovering there are no records posted for 2014 and 2015. Therefore that is my cutoff.
The championships are:
Bean Red
Freeman
Wagar
Zedtwitz
Bruce
Wernher
I ended with 93 hand records with 36 deals each. Three hand records were missing.
They are not as blatantly non-random as the Nail records, but they do distribute several different ways significantly different from random expectations.
My results are on a current Excel spreadsheet. I will respond to individual requests for an image of that spreadsheet if you are interested in auditing my results.
