At match points my partnership almost always gets to play 2C
for a decent score after
1D(1) 1NT(2)
2C(3)
(1) Playing weak NT, so fairly sound, usually bid 1C with 4-4 minors.
(2) Balanced, 5-8 HCP, never with as much as xxxx in a major..
(3) Unbalanced, usually 5 diamonds. 3+ clubs. Most commonly
4=1=5=3 or 1=4=5=3.
Note that the opponents must have a 9-card fit in a major except when
opener is 2=2=5=4, where they have an 8-card fit in each major. I'm
puzzled why we don't get more competition.
Fred.
