I ground beef from cheap steaks to make meatballs. A bit later, I'm
going to ALDI to get mushrooms to saute. I'll bring them to add as folks
wish. I know my f-i-l will not "wish." Betsy is making a blueberry
cobbler from the blueberries I got at a produce stand for $1 a carton.

I'd grind meat more often, but washing the grinder is a PITA, because
you're not supposed to put it in the dishwasher.

Was it on purpose. It seems to happen quite often around here with
smaller stores, the strip malls with those concrete stop blocks. It is typically senior drivers who claim to have accidentally stepped on the
    gas instead of the break.

There was a bakery in Port Colborne that was a favourite with the
oldsters and it was close to a seniors community. Judy's was famous for
her butter tarts. There were two incidents within a couple years of
each other. Judy moved to a new location about half a mile from the
old one and just a few months later someone drove into the front of that
    one.

Some years back Judy was hospitalized and was being treated for cancer.
He daughter took over the bakery to help her out but Judy would not give
here the butter tart recipe. Judy recovered enough to come back to work
for a while and butter tarts were available again. It didn't last long.
She got sick again. She died and took her recipe to the grave with her.
The daughter could not make a go of it without the butter tarts that
    most people went there for.

My wife made a peach cobbler last week but she made a gluten free
version of it. The peaches part was good. The topping??? Well, it was
gluten free so it did not fail to disappoint.

Yeah. He was a jerk. It's sad to think there are people like that living
among us. Jails are full of assholes. Years ago when I was in the
equipment section the Ministry was using jailbirds to do litter pickup.
Some of them were in for minor things but there were a few who were real winners. One guy had a number of convictions for drunk driving and
dangerous driving. He got over for speeding around and around a couple
blocks of the city. He didn't have a driver license and when the cop
asked him to identify himself he gave him a false name. He had not
recognized the cop but the cop knew him.

The cop used to date his sister and he prided himself for having cause
the break up. He didn't like cops and didn't like that a cop was dating
his sister. Every time the guy came to their house to pick up his sister
he would scream obscenities at him. I think if it was the cop's side of
the story it would not have made him look any worse than his own version
    of it.

For a while we were working out of offices at the back of the driver
exam office. People coming for driving tests were supposed to park at
the front but if it was really busy some people would park in the staff parking at the back. Our court officer used to park next door, and in
addition to the concrete parking blocks the lot next door was almost two
feet higher than ours. One day a senior driver who had come for a road
test had parked back there and had backed into the space, apparently
planning to about the backing out of the parking space part of the test
where many people fail. He mistook his accelerator for the brake and
flew back fast enough that he jumped the block, climbed the hill, hit
Syl's car hard enough to do some serious damage and knocked it back
    about 5 feet.

That wall had me fooled for decades. It looked so real! What I heard was that the
place used to be a mortuary. That explains why there's a slope built into the floor. They could just hose the floor down to clean off all the blood and chemicals. Other than that, there were no vibes of the dead lingering. The Burger
King down the street used to be a mortuary too. I definitely got bad vibes when eating there but it was probably just the food. The place is no longer a BK. That's a good thing maybe?

    Congrats, you've made a meme.

MySpace - I haven't heard that in quite a while. Back in the old days, we could access content that wasn't trying to sell us stuff. My guess is that the younger
generation won't believe that the internet used to operate that way - it wouldn't
make any sense to them. In a way, they're probably right.

The only bad thing was that on the way back from the in-laws, the pot

    Cleaning that was a project.

I bet that cleaning was fun. Maybe a large cardboard box for the pot to
sit in next time and a small bungee cord to secure the lid? I recently
bought these from Amazon and described as fitting crockpot lids. But
as you can see, they can fit different size pots.

    Perfect solution!

When I was working and we'd receive several pallets of copy paper each
week; those boxes holding 5000 sheets of paper made great storage
containers. I had one when I had my Explorer with the lid and box were
cut to the same 4" height to hold some things that loved to slide all over
the floorboard. A box of tissues, roll of paper towels, ice scraper, etc.

I used to carry 1lot of my kayaking gear in the back of my CRV, At some
point the car developed a foul smell. I chalked it up to the wet and
sweaty items in the bin. It got worse and worse. It got to the point
where I had to do something about it. So one day I pulled out the bin
and took everything out of it.It turned out that a mouse had managed to
get into the bin but must have had trouble getting out. I don't know how
long he had been in there but the corpse was pretty well dried out.

It really does not. It's not generally resource-rich. Yes, fancy haoles
and some locals do have fruit trees and have access to mangoes and papaya
and access to fresh sea food and so forth, but there's very little

You'd think vegetables can be imported, at least frozen.

    AI confirms what you say:
"Decades ago, diabetes was relatively rare in the region. The surge is
largely attributed to a rapid shift in lifestyles following
globalization and colonialismrCotransitioning from traditional, active
diets of fresh fish, root vegetables, and local crops to imported,
highly processed, nutrient-poor foods, alongside a decrease in
    physical activity.

Public health studies suggest that a combination of genetic
predispositions (such as the "thrifty gene" hypothesis, which
historically helped ancestors survive long ocean voyages or food
scarcity) and modern socioeconomic environments makes Pacific
populations particularly vulnerable to metabolic disorders when
    exposed to Western diets."

Of course but it's all sent unripe and left to ripen.

None of our tomatoes were Jersey Tomatoes.

When I spent time in SF, California is a Californicopia.

    Hawaii's not that.

The vegetable game in Hawaii is probaby the same as it is in Archorage. To wit:

A gallon of milk in Hawaii typically costs between $6.00 and $10.00,
making it the most expensive state in the nation for dairy products.
According to real estate and cost of living updates, the average price
hovers around $7.50 to $9.00 across standard stores.
