    MARTHA'S PLUM CASSEROLE
    Simple beef casserole with plum and tomato

    ----------------------------------------

    This is a delicious sweet beef casserole. The contributor got it from a radio talk-back show a few years earlier; it was a listener's old favourite.

    Yield

    Serves 4.

    Ingredients

    * 3 lbs cubed beef, 1.5 kg
    * 3/4 cup plum jam, 150 ml
    * 1 cup tomato sauce, 250 ml
    * 1 cup Worcestershire sauce, 250 ml
    * Flour, as needed to coat the beef

    Method

    1. Roll the beef cubes in flour.

    2. Place the floured beef in an ungreased casserole dish.

    3. Mix together the plum jam, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.

    4. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef, coating it well.

    5. Bake at 250 degrees F, 120 degrees C, for 1 hour.

    6. Serve hot.

    Notes

    This is a very simple sweet-and-savory beef casserole built around plum jam, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.

    The beef is not browned before baking. It is simply coated in flour and placed directly into the casserole dish.

    The casserole dish is left ungreased.

    Verified Recipe Note: The original ingredient markup uses rCL(34rCY for 3/4. This has been converted here for readability.

    Verified Recipe Note: The recipe calls for flour to coat the beef, but the source does not specify an amount.

    Verified Recipe Note: The source gives the oven temperature as 250 degrees F and 120 degrees C. These have been preserved as written.

    Verified Recipe Note: The original recipe uses the term rCLtomato saucerCY without further explanation, so it has been preserved exactly rather than substituted with another tomato product.

    The preserved entry lists the recipe as last modified on 27 May 1986 and posted to mod.recipes on 6 Jun 1986. It was contributed by Michael Gigante of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.

    The dish is a simple baked beef casserole in which flour-coated beef cubes cook beneath a sweet, tangy sauce made from plum jam, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.

    Recipe looks OK to me, except it needs more worcestershire. I think a
    quart would be about right.
