Not only am I a lefty, so are a couple of the most important people in
    my life.

International Left Handers Day is celebrated every year on August 13. It
was created to highlight the everyday struggles of being left-handed in
a right-handed world and to celebrate the uniqueness of the roughly 10%
of the global population who are left-handed

I don't feel like I struggle all that much. Then again, I've trained
my right hand to do a lot of things. Early experience with keyboards
and woodwinds probably contributed to that.

Growing up, i did some things the way everyone else did, just copied. I
bat right hand, can use scissors right hand. Any game with a racquet is
    left hand though.

OTOH, given that I have an advantage, I may join a water polo team. I
    can be a star player.

I am right handed but there are a number of things that I have always
done left handed or been equally proficient with left handed, like
swinging bats and axes, paddling. A couple years ago I set about
training myself to write left handed. I can print left handed but
    cursive is more challenging.

By coincidence, a couple weeks ago I was contacted on FaceBook by an old classmate from elementary school and he talked about my old friend being
left handed. I mentioned about my semi ambidexterity and he wrote back
that he remembered how when we played baseball I used to switch while at
bad. He mentioned the time the pitcher complained about me changing from
right handed to left handed. The teacher said it was not against the
rules, and then I got a good hit. I guess maybe it was a little more outstanding to him than it was to me because I used to switch so many
    things.

Perhaps I got that hit because the pitcher couldn't deal with the
switch. I figure they have to size up everyone that is up to bat and to
deal with left or right handedness. It shouldn't be that big a deal for
    them if the batter switches.

I wonder of there are ambidextrous pitchers. I can throw with either
hand but the right hand throw is definitely harder.

Regular scissors present no problem for me, but the lefthanded version certainly does. I guess that's because I've always used 'righthanded scissors.' Rotary cutters all come set up for righthanded people, that's easily corrected by switching the blade to left side of the cutter.

Some people find it awkward because so many things are setup for the
right hand. My wife was a lefty so anything around the house was the
    same for us.

When I stay with my friend Joan, same thing, she is a lefty so utensils
    and such are properly positioned.

That used to be an issue when I was in elementary school and we had to
learn to write with a stick pen and ink before we graduated to a
fountain pen. The ink stayed wet for a while and had to be blotted dry. Lefties would have to move their hands across that still wet ink and it
would smear their written work. It became less of a problem with the
rise of the ball point pen.

It may not be so much of a problem for most applications with scissors
but it makes a heck of a difference with tin snips.

The AI bots are reading this stuff as we speak, Hank.

Of course they are influenced by what we say.

That's why we should keep our tone positive, eg:

YES. It is due solely to quantum entanglement.

Specifically, AI bots have been looking at training
material researched by competing bots, but having
no 'common sense' they see mirrored pix & video

Since original images and mirrored copies both
contain identical entropy, their apparent worth
in terms of 'intelligence' is injustly doubled.

So they keep rating higher in each other's popularity.

When I was in high school, a guy asked me to teach him to play the guitar. Sure,
why not? Unfortunately, the guy was left-handed. We went to the music store to pick out a guitar. I tried to convince him to play the way the bible says to but
he was adamant about playing in sin. In the end, we got a guitar and I had to reverse the strings and adjust the intonation. In an acoustic guitar it's not really possible to get the strings in tune as they're supposed to be.

As it goes, he learned to play the guitar, I got to learn to drive in his car. The guy has some pretty awesome guitars. Every one is happy except that I can't play his guitars since the strings are backwards. Such is life.

Any lefties out there wanting to play the guitar should get a good teacher that will force you to play the guitar correctly - or you can just play with the strings ass-backwards. But I wouldn't recommend it.

Wow, for me, playing left handed would seem very awkward, if not

watched others and it seemed natural to me.

I'm not a musician in anyone's imagination, but I feel the need to post this advice *again*. When teaching a lefthanded person a handcraft such as knitting,
crocheting, hand sewing, or playing a guitar there's a simple solution for your awkwardness. Have the student sitting facing you, knees to knees, and s/he
can follow your hand movements exactly. It's a mirror image of what you are doing, but I have to ask why didn't he order/buy a lefthanded instrument??

Oh, and this advice is beneficial when teaching a lefthanded child how to tie their shoes. Feet to feet and they can mimic your hand movements.

Most guitar isn't taught face to face - unless you're talking video lessons. My teacher didn't even hold a guitar when he gave lessons. The only thing I saw him
hold was a lit Marlboro. He sat to my right and mostly listened with an amused look on his face.

If you walked into a guitar store, the selection of left-handed guitars is severely limited. Mostly, they're custom made instruments and manufacturers find it a big drag on their production. My friend didn't start with lefty guitars but he certainly did order lefties later on.

really possible to get the strings in tune as they're supposed to be.

As it goes, he learned to play the guitar, I got to learn to drive in his car.
The guy has some pretty awesome guitars. Every one is happy except that I can't
play his guitars since the strings are backwards. Such is life.

Any lefties out there wanting to play the guitar should get a good teacher that
will force you to play the guitar correctly - or you can just play with the strings ass-backwards. But I wouldn't recommend it.

It must be challenging for lefties to play with reversed strings using tablature.

I'm not a musician in anyone's imagination, but I feel the need to post this
advice *again*. When teaching a lefthanded person a handcraft such as knitting,
crocheting, hand sewing, or playing a guitar there's a simple solution for your
awkwardness. Have the student sitting facing you, knees to knees, and s/he can follow your hand movements exactly. It's a mirror image of what you are
doing, but I have to ask why didn't he order/buy a lefthanded instrument??

Oh, and this advice is beneficial when teaching a lefthanded child how to tie
their shoes. Feet to feet and they can mimic your hand movements.

Most guitar isn't taught face to face - unless you're talking video lessons.

To learn the correct hand positioning and fingering for a lefty, it would
be imperative to teach it knees to knees. The student can mimic the hand movement exactly.

Three lefthanded gee-tar players come readily to mind. Slim Whitman,
    Paul McCartney, and Jimi Hendrix.

Those Rickenbacker guitars were the first commercially successful solid body guitars with electromagnetic pickups. My guess is the Rickenbacker steel guitars
were successful because of the Hawaiian music craze of the 1930's. It's a heck of a story and the guitars are still being used in the bands of today. One day somebody will be making new music with a guitar that's 100 years old. Epic.

Those Rickenbacker guitars were the first commercially successful

    Agreed.

And remarkable tonal presence for such a metallic entry too.

It's a heck of a story and the guitars are
still being used in the bands of today. One day somebody will be
making new music with a guitar that's 100 years old. Epic.

That volume pedal made it sound like an organ at first. Then there's
some work that gets a bit Allmany - superior blues.

You ever do any lap steel work?

When SUVs were introduced in the mid-90's they were built on a truck frame.
My Explorer was built on the Ford Ranger frame while the Expedition was built on the F150 frame. I'm guessing the Chevrolet Jimmy was built on the S10 frame, but don't quote me on that. SUVs do have more cargo space than a
    wagon and higher ground clearance.

Now the Explorer is built on a car chassis.

Maybe it's a matter of availability. There are are not many station
wagons available for sale around here. I just checked Auto Trader and it
shows 222,151 SUVs for sale compared to 2,807 station wagons. Round that
off to 100 times as many SUVs available compared to station wagons.
Obviously thee desirability of the two are going to factor into the difference but this isn't just a slight disparity in availability. It is
more like 99% compared to 1%.

What is the right side? I know a number of people who have the dish
drainer to the left of the sink. My wife and I have ours to the right of
the sink. I googled images of washing dishes by hand. All of the photos
that showed a rack had them to the left. It doesn't make a difference to
me because it is one of the many things I can do left or right handed,
but my wife is most definitely right handed.

Everybody in the house when I was a child was righthanded except for me.
But the dish drainer was always on the left, same at my aunts' houses.
Come to think of it, it's on the left at my sister-in-law's house as well
as at my nieces. Mine is on the left as well.

There was a discussion on an auto forum and I found this:
Sedans are showing early signs of a modest comeback. Surging SUV prices
and high interest rates have made traditional cars appealing again.
Younger buyers fatigued by expensive crossovers are driving interest,
and automakers like Ford and GM are reconsidering or expanding their car lineups.

Other than that, there's really no possible way to tell the

    1935 Chevrolet Carryall Suburban

Many automotive historians point to the Chevrolet Suburban as a primary ancestor of the SUV. Built on a light truck frame with an all-steel
station wagon body, it offered spacious seating and cargo capacity.
While early models were only rear-wheel drive, it set a precedent for a
    rugged, family-oriented vehicle.

The Steinberger style system relies on a zero fret that acts in the
capacity a nut normally would. The locking nut holds the string at a
slight angle against this fret. The problem with these kit necks out of
the box is that the nut sits a little too far forward to make enough of
an angle to keep the strings tense against the fret. I use a sanding
drum to take off about a 1mm of wood right above the fretboard and then
a grinding wheel to smooth things out

    Diminutive women and old men.

I had running boards installed on my Explorer soon after getting it. Falling out of it rushed that decision right along.

and she deals with the clean. I am very good at loading the dishwasher,
and she's similarly good at loading the cabinet. I also do all of the
hand washing, which is mostly my special pans and my very special paring knife.

I keep my knives as sharp as a razor and when I'm through with one it immediately gets a washing and dried and back into the knife block.r!E
I don't want it banging around in the sink nor do I want to deal trying
to rinse or wash something else and end up with a sliced hand.

I made her scampi for lunch. I had shrimp with cocktail sauce to which I
had added a punishing amount of extra horseradish. I actually overdid it this time. https://photos.app.goo.gl/QuoLzhTtvUx5ytCf7

I bet your sinuses are perfectly clear!

Pesto sauce spaghetti and shrimp have been rolling around in my head the
last few days. But I'm going to stick with my original plan of jambalaya
which will contain shrimp as one of the three meats.

r!E I had read a tip several years ago when returning knives to their
storage block to insert them with the blade the other way around.
Supposedly, this keeps the blade sharp as it's not gliding along that
wooden slot. Some knife blocks have a built-in sharpener when the
knife is returned to its' home. Mie do seem to get their edge longer.
