Some years back a friend gave me this small gearbox unit . It's about (widest point) 4" square and about 8" tall . It has one splined shaft
near the bottom , input I'd think . Above that it has 2 shafts - one
solid piece most likely - coming out at right angles to the "input"
shaft . Gear ratio is 1:1 , and all screws are safety wired .
The markings on the top of the unit are vard vfs860 and 2642-1 all
cast in the top . Engraved is a serial number 867876 and an ink stamp
also with 2642 . I can't think of anything offhand that would need 2
splined outputs at right angles to the input , maybe one of y'all might
    have an idea .

A right angle gear box of course has lots of uses, but dual output shaft
might have fewer. Do they turn the same direction? You said likely one
solid piece, so probably not, but its a thought. Maybe its for a heavy
load and two shafts with two drives would be more balanced on the
    bearings of the gear box?

ID the gear box? Not me. I am struggle with sourcing gear boxes I can
afford for the applications where I can use one.

(I have no use at the moment for a gear box, but I may be looking for an
FNR gear box for a mini rail soon (for myself, not the BAJA SAE club*).
I want to power around 20HP before performance tuning, and off the shelf generic components for more than 18 are expensive and or hard to find.

    * The BAJA SAE kids are running a bone stock 14hp Kohler Commander with
a restricter plate. (Geez might as well be Nascar where everything is
the same under the skin) The only room they have to play really is in
    tires and gearing.

I was thinking along the same line of dual drive to one shaft though
I don't see a point unless it's a heavy load and it will balance torque
    on the unit .

Are those the SOHC singles ? I've heard HP numbers from those motors
that are hard to believe .
