• Tire replacement question

I should know this but it is free to ask. My Catrike has Schwalb One 20
inch tires 406 20 X 1.2 and they have 4800 miles on them. So far no
flats to the right tire but 2 on left per my last post. I got 2 new ones
to replace these when they go but maybe I should go ahead are replace
now. Looking at tires they still have generally good round no flat spot
but clearly not as thick as the new ones. I can see some tread line on
old tires that are prominent on the new ones. These cost $43 each so not
huge sums of money. I don't like changing flats but possibly I was just unlucky and can keep riding these. Would you change them and just have
them around as spare now or ride the old? AI tells me to replace.

IrCOd suggest that realistically the tyres will have lost some thickness as
the tread has worn down so will reduce itrCOs resistance to a degree, and wasnrCOt one possibly, the rim tape? So independent of the tyre? Ie seems to
be one puncture, and on one tyre.

Really depends on how much debris your roads have? I think mr CatTrike runs
the Marathons (which are designed to tolerate this) down to the puncture
layer I donrCOt ie my tyres are replaced with worn tread but when they have
got sufficiently cut up, as the commutes has gravel paths and once north of Heathrow glass is a possibility so tyres get slashes, so eventually I
replace, they generally get to high mileages 8K ish though not sure about
the roadie will depend on the One plus tyres compound I guess? At 1600
miles and have minimal signs of wear.

Ai search results are objectively worse and frequently just wrong! I assume itrCOs cheaper than the older algorithms? See Ai images and wording, hence
    the Ai slop quote!

Clearly are uses, mate uses it within the video processing but itrCOs very
much an aid than generative which is the slop stuff, likewise my sister
uses to start documentation for her work, but as she notes, if Ai takes out junior staff who will replace the senior staff like herself when they move
on or retire, as junior staff need to learn.

I've used several different Schwalbe tires with the thinner "race
guard" puncture protection and have gotten punctures flats with them
even riding mostly on bike trails. I would think riding on streets and
roads would mean more puncture flats. The first year I had the Catrike
I picked up a tiny little piece of red plastic, probably from broken
tail light, on the original equipment tire (Marathon Racer) A tiny
little leak. I rode it for another 500 feet or so until I figured out
what the "pft, pft, pft, pft, pft" sound was..... Surprised that the
tiny piece of plastic didn't get blown out.

The next protection layer up "green guard" is much better and I don't
think are any slower, maybe even faster.

Two of the tires I'm riding on now (right and rear) have over 6000
miles and have lots of tread left. I use them until the green shows
through and then maybe a little more.

The Marathon racer is much lighter with a thinner tyre carcass, than
standard marathons of which are few variations, itrCOs closer too stuff like the Gatorskins, which are more or less in the same ball park as the
Schwable One tyre both aiming for similar uses, ie commuters and so on, vs
the GP5000 which is quite a bit more expensive and racy tyre and thus
    rather lighter thinner carcass.

IrCOve not had problems with the BigApples I get knocking on for 10K for them despite encountering glass regularly, punctures are really rare, less than
once very 2 years. But itrCOs likely to be a thicker tyre carcass so despite the race guard it shrugges off broken bottles, and so on.

Not used it but the Marathon racer doesnrCOt get optimistic reviews, and
indeed drum tests suggest that like you said itrCOs slower than the Marathon Green, ie itrCOs not a great tyre choice really, with better performance be that speed/durability etc found in other tyres.

Two of the tires I'm riding on now (right and rear) have over 6000
miles and have lots of tread left. I use them until the green shows
through and then maybe a little more.

Does suggest your riding in a fairly low risk environment for punctures, my commute is definitely more risky in that regard, unless I head into town,
where debris and glass are rather low probability.

i road 40 miles this morning on them on good road no issues. I am on
roads that are quite good for the most part. The bad ones are conrete
that cause more bounce and they get pot holes more. The asphalt road is
fine and even the chip seal that is worn down. I looked at tires again
and frankly nothing showing up on the them like threads for sure. It is
just that even swapping a new tube at some point better mo
