The article quotes 5,200 km.
On well organized charity bike rides (food, board, motivation catered
for), reaching 100 miles per day comes out as expected for a determined
but untrained cyclist.
When I was young, I participated in a one week 'Coventry to Cork and
back' charity ride, doing some over 600 miles in hilly terrain, plus 2 overnight ferry trips, plus the day in Cork was mostly on charity
business.
