My daughter, a daily north side Chicago commuter, detests
the new bike lane concrete curbing, or 'death chutes'.
Here in Santa Cruz County they decided to line our main drag, Soquel Drive with these 4ft high pylons (white) stuck in these black "cereal bowl" like mounting blobs.
We all complained about them making us feel constricted in letter to the editor in the local rag.
The powers that be actually listened and ended up cutting the pyons down to about 18 inches high.
These have been rapidly disappearing due to SC's finest delinquents or
pylon haters, maybe, leaving the nearly invisible black "mounting bowl" behind--pretty bad to hit one of these at night.
Fortunately, they are nearly all gone now and not being replaced.

A rousing success!
Whoever made that decision, and secured the proper kickbacks
from the vendors, now has to select a contractor for
remediation (another profit opportunity) and then let new
contracts for an improved ant-bicycle system. Rinse and repeat.
As long as large segments of the voters are unhappy and
nothing works well, the system just rolls along and repeats.
