Did my 27 miles today. I started out real easy and the first half I kept myh heart rate dolwn in the hundreds. This gave me a power output of some 80 watts at 10 mph avg. The first half as usual was into a headwind. On the way back with a following wind I was riding in the 15 mph range and my average power for the entire ride was only 106 watts at an average speed for the ride of 11.15 mph No one passed me today but I did put some effort into the final 60 foot climb in order to stay in front of a couple of women. This wasn't because I wanted to beat them but because at the downhill on the other side they crawl down the descent.
So now I think all this means is that when I push the start, I don't have a warmup and that really kicks up my power. So raher than the 132 to 144 watts Ive been showing I think that the 106 watts is probably more likely.
This is pretty much what Wolfgang, zen and Roger thought. Either that or I've been wasting a lot of power warming up.
