Having read many of this yearrCOs posts on rec.bicycles.tech, IrCOve
got the impression that there arenrCOt many participants left who
actually ride standard road bikes rCo that is, muscle-powered
two-wheelers ridden on roads. Half a dozen, perhaps, if not
    fewer.

Let's do a quick poll: Who still rides regular bikes on regular
    roads?

    [raises hand] I do.

Assuming 'normal' means fixed gear, 1 meter frame, tubulars.

I think all but one of the regular posters are still riding do have two
using trikes but thatrCOs kinda still bike adjacent and so on. DonrCOt believe anyone owns or uses a E bike regularly, I have used them and a MTB friend
has one, and clearly are lots E hire bikes, had the pond guy over last week
who asked why I hadnrCOt used one to collect my car after work, IrCOd needed to cross outer london from my work to the Garage, but since my average speed
was only a touch below the point that the legal assistance cuts off, would
be too slow and risk the garage being shut when I got there!

My recent as in about two years old now, is a road bike for the commute,
did use it for a trip to IronBridge a month or so back? As stock at least
for the commute the gearing was too stiff, so I treated it to a bigger
cassette plus chain, which means IrCOm not flipping between chainrings.

I have an older commuter that was my old MTB originally Hardtail but
swapped out to a rigid fork for less maintenance, plus mudguards and
panniers and tyres that can shrug off glass! ItrCOs the old faithful and is essentially bombproof.

Have a good if bit old fashioned full suspension MTB, which is a delight
but does need terrain suitable for it, so generally needs transport to somewhere be that car or train.

And my latest I suppose technically was just a frameset, a modern Gravel
bike ie can take wider tyres ie 50mm or 2in though they are noticeably less capable despite there size compared to the MTBrCOs tyres which are 2.4 or 60 something mm and are dramatically softer compounds and many times more
durable, ie donrCOt step out over wet slabs/roots and are much more able to shrug off rock strikes, if double the weight more or less and so on.

Well I can ride a regular bike fine but do to safety issues I now ride
the recombent Catrike. It is human powered no electric motor except me.
I consider this a bike regardless of what anyone else things. In fact to
me it is harder to ride a Catrike than regular bike. I ride the regular
    bike indoors on a trainer.

To me this group is really almost social in many ways. Strange habit of checking in here with folks I have personally met in person. That said
there a some real friends here and consider them as friend first who
happen to cycle and talk about things people our age do. I don't think
you can find anyone here too young.

I try to ride about 100 miles per week, around 90 for exercise
subject to weather and another 10 or so for local shopping.

I lurk more than post, but I'm definitely one of the ones that does a
diamond frame out on roads with traffic.

I recognize that there are reasons for doing recumbent and/or
3-wheelers, but for the way I ride, I want the force for standing on the pedals, whether for my relatively rare attempts at climbing, or just
being able to accelerate out of standing stops.

I thought the group was about bicycle tech, not about what kind of
bicycle each of us rides. I've got 40,000 documented miles on my
Catrike Expedition and every inch powered only by my legs. It's never
been wrenched by anyone but me, and the only original parts are the
steering arms and the rear wheel rim. I replaced the frame in 2017.

ThatrCOs really what itrCOs intended for yes, do occasionally get bike infrastructure though much less since FrankrCOs gone, and clearly TomrCOs ride reports which are just well Tom!

IrCOm not sure where Wolfgang is going with this.
