"The police action came after the pair of roadside fans were captured on
the GirorCOs live broadcast stepping into the peloton and reaching out to touch riders as the bunch pedaled through a traffic circle."

Except that they weren't trying to 'touch' the riders. They were jumping
into the path, trying t get the riders to react and crash, or possibly
get hit so they could sue.

Unfortunately they won't get much more than a fine.

For those without a Velo account, here's an instagram post with video of
    the incident

Really? Riders have been beaten up before by rivals supporters over 100
years ago, the Tour history is littered with if one is being kind shady behaviour both on and off the bike, and so on.

Seems to me like many "fans" of events like that are most interested
in seeing the accidents. Auto racing, bike racing, horse racing,
motorcycle racing, etc make the biggest headlines, draw the biggest
crowds, and make the most money for the media when there's potentially
    blood involved.

ThatrCOs more the click bate websites.

Certainly for watching road races, of which I have done a number of times
over the years, hills and the climb up are where fans like to watch. Some places get festive like others less so.

The Tour de France will be passing through Wales next year so IrCOm hoping to be able to watch them climb one pass, and be able to ride along the ridge
to the next pass that they climb.
