• The bike to make it easy

My brother deacon brought me a garage sale 20 inch kids bike to get
working for his 7.5 year old grandson. It has a rear derailleur with 7
gears and a real messy set of breaks. The bike had a spring attached as
some type of suspension system. Huge tires and it weight a ton. I had troubling getting in the basement.

After see I would need a new shifter and all new cabling for brakes I
knew it was a lost cause. I went to Walmart got the kid $128 BMX bike
with no gears 20 inches and much much lighter. It checked out and is
ride-able for sure. This little guy is about 50 inches tall will be
growing fast and this is a temporary set up.

I am know you all think this is stupid a Walmart bike but really the kid
will have something much better to deal with and I am glad. By the time
I would get the other one back together in time and materials it would
be over $128. I drop it off to his grandfather in an hour. He help me
all during my crash doing things I am thrilled to do this and of course
no cost to him. It sounds like I did this out of the goodness of my
heart, which in some sense is true but way easier than doing the repair
and getting old bike back to him. I made it easier on myself.

    Good decision.

A cheap china bike properly assembled, adjusted, maybe even
add some lubricant to the otherwise dry bearings, air in the
tires, etc is a great improvement over 'off the rack'.
