It's my opinion that they are trying to market a new trend. 700c wheels
ae a measureable improvement over 26" MTB whe3els but I think thst is
largely due to longer development time. And look how long it took to
convince people that 28's were faster than 23's?
26inch wheels, have been in development longer than 29ers for MTBs which
are at most only 20 years.
MTBer are in general less conservative than roadies with technology, so
that roadies took their time to move to wider tyres and the fuss over disk brakes was viewed with some degree of humour!
Remember 27.5 was introduced just after which muddled the market for quite
a few years, but 29ers better roll over, on technical terrain, is
definitely a thing, 27.5 is now almost exclusively used just in mullet
bikes, ie 29F 27.5R.
As ever with Renehersecyles they are consistently conservative and retro grouches with opinion dressed as facts, be that Tubeless to tread on gravel tyres of all things, 32in is 10% more than 29% which is 10% more than 26in.
So within normal ranges I regularly swap the different wheel sizes.
Very few 32inch bikes and all are prototypes essentially, and like 29ers
before them, are likely to be compromised as the bikes go through
development, IrCOve not seen weight claimed as advantage.
IrCOm rather cynical that they will work for smaller folks ie riders 5rCY4 and less who arenrCOt well served by bikes at the moment. And is some talk that will need a new hub width, regarding wheel strength, less so for Gravel or
XC MTB but in more technical disciplines and harder riding folks do tango wheels, IrCOve cracked a few rims even as relatively light riding chap,
though IrCOm not light and I like technical stuff.
In short my hunch is this will be more of a niche, maybe like 27.5.
