    I have fond memories of riding the NYC century a couple of times
    with friends. Guys I met online, as it happens. Several are no
    longer living. :(

    One of my favorite pictures from the first time is of a small
    group stopped somewhere in the city gathered around unfurled paper
    maps and gesticulating about what way to go. lol

    I think they had 50,000 or so riders. It was exceptionally
    well-organized, tons of support and free food, great atmosphere
