    Authorities say a young teen died after being struck by a train in Simi
    Valley on Saturday evening.

    The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m., according to the Ventura County
    Fire Department.

    Simi Valley Police Department officials later stated that the teen was
    riding a rCLtwo-wheeled motorized devicerCY southbound on the eastern
    sidewalk of Sequoia Avenue when they collided with an Amtrak train at
    the East Los Angeles Avenue railroad crossing.

    They succumbed to their injuries at the scene despite emergency response efforts, SVPD said, adding that the preliminary investigation indicated
    they failed to stop in time at the crossing and was subsequently struck
    by the passing train.

    While the youth was not identified by name, SVPD did say they were a
    student within the Simi Valley Unified School District.
