• Infected ear update and ride.

Tuesday, 4/21/26, I made the 1 hr, 40 mile drive to downtown Tampa to
my latest doctor appointment to see about getting rid of the ear
infection in my outer ear that first showed on March 10th. The pain
and hearing loss has come and gone several times, but the infection
    has persisted.

This doctor performed minor surgery on the infected area and packed my
ear with some sort of a antibiotic filler material. He's pretty sure
that it will will clear up the problem. I can't hear a thing with that
ear, but the pain is entirely gone.

I spent yesterday sleeping and eating chicken soup, which is my wife's
cure all for any physical problems. I felt much better this morning
physically and emotionally and went out for a short 20 mile ride.

Good Lord thatAs quite the distance to just see a doctor!

I've been to three other doctors and the ER at the hospitol in the
last six weeks and they all said just keep taking the bills and
putting in the drops. The last of the three suggested that I see this
fouth doctor who is a surgeon, 40 miles away in downtown Tampa
    traffic.

Going on seven weeks since I first had the problem. Some of the meds
they gave me were worse than the ear problem in ways I won't get
into.... I tried cranking on the bike a few times in the driveway,
but every little bump and pedal strain irritated the infection.

I'm planning a longer ride Monday. The twenty mile ride didn't cause
    any problems.

Sorry misread that to 1hr 40min drive! Looking again the 1hr drive seems
more reasonable, in distance at least. Still seems poor care to need a 4th doctor over 7 weeks.

ear with some sort of a antibiotic filler material. He's pretty sure

Do they have an ID on the suspected organism(s) involved?
Hope it's not the dreaded "mersa" or the like

I didn't hear that name mentioned, and they did do a culture and a
biopsy. I did seem to have some of the symptoms, and it was pretty had
    to get under control.

At any rate, I'm no longer feeling discomfort in that ear, other than
whatever he stuffed in there having defunctioned all the hearing and
balance functions. Along with my poor hearing, my balance functions
were not all that good before the infection, so the collapsible cane I
carry on my rides has come in handy, as has the device I built to load
    the Catrike into the truck.
