Pilots and instructors may find this useful:
I have refreshed the DTC Sky Trail website:
http://dtcskytrail.com
The site presents a ready-made scenic flight route over the ghostly remains
of the WWII Desert Training Center / California-Arizona Maneuver Area u an enormous military training ground of roughly 18,000 square miles,
established to prepare U.S. forces for desert warfare.
Many of its traces are still visible today on the desert floor: camp sites, maneuver areas, roads, rock alignments, airfields, tank tracks, and other remnants. From the air, the scale of the place becomes much easier to appreciate.
The site is intended as a practical aviation resource: a onature trail in
the skyo that pilots and instructors can use for flight planning,
sightseeing, historical orientation, and perhaps as a cross-country training destination.
Comments, corrections, and suggestions from pilots are welcome.
