• Happy New Year

Want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year.

My special attentions go out to the more conservative contributors; the prolific acouple25 and always informative Jim Wilkins. Even (what I
consider) the wacko loony left types such as Baxter/Webster/et al. the
same to you all. You give entertainment value to me and a point of view
that would normally be foreign to me (I live in Northampton, MA so Loony
Left POVs are the norm here).

Hoping that in the coming year we can express our views (especially
towards the subject group of military aviation) in a strong manner,
based on facts (even if we choose what source of "fact" we believe) and
most of all, in a civil manner.

As the country becomes more and more polarized, and Congress, both
Democrat, Republican and Independent, become more interested in scoring
points against the opposition than governing the country, I am hoping
that we can at least come together in some areas of the American
politic. If not, I can only hope a future election CRUSHES one way of thinking versus another to get some semblance of cooperation to get work
done in Congress (if I had the power, I'd fire ALL Congress Reps and
Senators in favor of a new representative group who's imperative was to
govern rather than score political points).

People who condemn the Founding Fathers only in terms as being
slaveholders or smugglers or corrupt local politicians, forget that
those individuals did something better than most any of our current politicians, conservative or liberal, can do; they were able to COMPROMISE!

Hoping, perhaps forlornly, for a spirit of compromise in the coming year.

Happy 2026 for all contributors to this group.

    The same to you.

You might find this interesting. Theodore Roosevelt was a keen and
perceptive analyst of both nature and humanity who possessed the eloquence
to clearly describe his observations and opinions. https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/77590/pg77590-images.html

    Thanks, I'll look it over.

Teddy is among my favorite Presidents. Always liked his mix of strong military and national identity along with writer, explorer,
conservationist, trust buster and other non-congruent positions that
    make for an interesting leader.

A unique mix that doesn't really have an equal these days.

Happy New Year to you! Good to see you're still around.

I must point out though, the COMPROMISE, and Bipartisan, does not mean one side acquiescing / surrendering to the other. Compromise for the chimera
    of tranquility is surrender.

Hi Peter. Yep, still kicking around, as are you!

I'll agree that at times, compromise is a form of surrender. But people wanting "compromise" by having the other side come to their position is
a serious lack of understanding of the term.

I'm always astonished how early colonial and US leaders would come to agreements, no matter how awful it now seems, e.g. slaves representing
3/5ths of a person for census purposes, and thus political power and
    taxation favoring the South.

They got the job done and progressed from there.
