    Has anybody tried laser cleaning for a classic car shell, that has been overcome with 'patina'?
    I also wonder are those things restricted, having hundreds of watts of
    power, that could do a lot of damage in the wrong hands.

    The laser is tuned to whatever you don't want to remain;
    paint, rust, oil etc. Laser ablation vaporizes the crud
    without harming the substrate.
