Is the old relative 'procession' preferable, or can they tweak the
current, or think up something new for F1 not to be a yawn-fest.

After the first two races it seems to me that we have had some of the best racing for years. The rules may need a bit of tweaking but that is the case with most new systems.
Max is paid millions to entertain the fans, yet he is complaining that the cars are rCLnot fun to driverCY.
