    In the 1970's I was sports car racing in a 850cc Sports Racer with a 6
    speed Hewland Transmission. I normally used the clutch, but it was not critical once you were rolling. The swaged clutch cable failed up at
    Westwood BC. I used a small vise grip plyers with the thought that it
    just needs to work once. Turns out it worked fine for several races
    until I could get new swaging done.
