Russia held elections for the Duma (the national parliament) this week.
Russia *is* a democracy - or so Putin claims - and so they staged an
election; no prize for guessing who won. But what a farce it was! The
levels of corruption exceeded even those in California and that's saying something!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GueJMgDuMWw [22 minutes]

I'm sure the Democrats are studying the Russian method of elections
eagerly so that they can learn the latest techniques of subverting
democracy. I think my favourite of those new techniques is the practice
of the government voting for you!

Damn! L.A. really *is* corrupt! I was really shocked when the Russian
woman, who'd been ignoring the government urging people to vote online
showed up at a polling station to vote and was told that the computer
system said she'd already voted. I didn't think anyone else had done
    *that*.

Do you have debates where literally no one shows up? If so, L.A. may
still have some things to learn from the Russians.

I think werCOve already won. They send us pictures of our ballots and census forms, but they donrCOt actually show up in the mailbox. The ones that do,
they take out and burn, 20,000 at a time. How can you beat that? LetrCOs not even talk about the DMV, keeping the voting records and losing them and
    making us all not citizens.

Trump needs to stop the leftist radicals from stealing the election in November. For some reason only the elections held during Trump's Presidency get stolen. The FBI will find out how the leftists get away with it and continue to bury the evidence. ANTIFA may have stolen 1992, 2008 and 2020 but they won't do it in 2028.

Somehow they always seem to get "lost" along the way.

In the last election, I showed up to the polls to vote only to be told the computer showed I already voted by mail. Since I'd never received a ballot in the mail, that indicated to me that someone intercepted it somewhere along the line and voted on my behalf. I was forced to cast a provisional ballot which would only be counted later after my identity was verified. What do you
suppose the odds are that any of that ever happened in this dumpster fire of a state, especially to a ballot full of votes for conservatives being reviewed
by government workers that are almost all 'progressive' Democrats?

The most likely scenario is that my vote died on some shelf somewhere and someone else got to vote for me, likely for candidates I never would have chosen.

We can, but the reptiles running the system benefit from it and therefore ignore the proof.

And if some independent citizen exposes it to the public, the reptiles pass a blatantly unconstitutional law making it a crime to talk about it. (i.e., California's "Stop Nick Shirley Act".)

I don't doubt that there's been occasional ballot-stuffing (and the
like) over many, many years. But the main concern today is Trump's
claim that presidential elections are fraudulent, which imperils what
little trust remains for our once-cherished institutions. And, to my knowledge, this reckless claim is entirely unsubstantiated.

I don't doubt that there's been occasional ballot-stuffing (and the
    like) over many, many years.

In the run-up to the most recent mayoral race in L.A., multiple instances of 'progressive' NGOs paying Skid Row vagrants to vote were captured on camera. They're so blatant about it, so confident they won't be caught, that they set up sidewalk tables right out in the open with signage advertising money for votes. In one instance, an LAPD patrol car was parked mere yards away and when the journalist went over and pointed it out to cops, along with screenshots of both the California and federal code sections that make it a crime, the cops shrugged and said they'd been told to leave them alone.

And guess what part of the city communist candidate Nithya Raman's
odds-defying last-minute vote surge (that eliminated Spencer Pratt )
originated from? I'll give you one guess.

The corruption has been well-documented and it isn't some unique black swan event. It's an entire machine dedicated to rigging L.A.'s elections in favor
of hard-Left Democrats and to the elimination of any threat to the status quo, like Spencer Pratt.

Is there any truth to the headlines I've seen about Karen Bass being

that has received $2 billion but not done much of anything yet? Those

What would happen to the mayoral election if Bass got arrested and/or

Is there any truth to the headlines I've seen about Karen Bass being

    possible these days.

What would happen to the mayoral election if Bass got arrested and/or resigned "to focus on clearing her good name"? Does Raman just get in automatically? Or is Pratt back in with a chance? Or does Bass get to
stay major (assuming the machine gives her enough votes) and govern
    despite being under a cloud?

I haven't heard anything about Bass being on the verge of arrest. I mean, I'd love to see it happen and I'd throw a party if she was perp-walked out of City Hall, but I haven't seen anything.

Our only hope is the extreme long-shot of enough people writing in Pratt's
    name on their ballot.

I've also heard that regardless of whether Bass or Raman wins, the election is under such a dark cloud that there are several organizations already laying
the groundwork for a recall campaign for the winner. The law says you have to wait three months from Election Day to file recall paperwork, so the winner will have only three months to enjoy their victory before having to start the fight to keep their job.

Your state desperately needs SOMETHING that pushes back against all the nonsense. Even if voting for moderates or conservatives remains

Yes, the U.S. Attorney had to get involved because the state and local

    bad guy.

No, I give no more of a shit about Trump than he does about me.-a My
concern is the (unwarranted, I hope) general loss of faith in
    elections.

And yet you at best seem to shrug about blatant election fraud when the
    perpetrators are leftist-Democrats.

Among all the people I encounter in the course of my daily life, if
    the topic
of election fraud comes up, it's the absolute certainty of its
    commission here
in California that people say undermines their faith in elections.
    Trump's
    name never comes up.

Yes, as I said, there's long been occasional fraud at the local level,
but not at the national level ...an important threshold, imo.-a The
*belief* that a national election is rigged, when it isn't, might
actually be more harmful than the belief that it isn't, when it is.

Your selective amnesia is breathtaking. It's widely known that JFK's
father bought him enough votes to get him over the top and win the 1960 election and that's as federal as these things get.

Actually, I'm unfamiliar with that as a serious (i.e., more than pro
    forma) allegation.

    Google's AI:
"While allegations of voter fraud, mob influence, and the vast
wealth of the Kennedy family fueled decades of rumors, historians and
rigorous studies have found no evidence that corruption altered the
    final outcome."

Regardless, I think I'd have noticed if it had seriously eroded the
public's trust, which is what I'm concerned for here, and which I think
the current President has no qualms about exploiting.

Wait a minute. Just yesterday you were claiming that Hillary's election >>> denials are of no consequence because no one believes her, but Trump is a >>> unique threat because so many do believe him.

Now you say you don't think anyone believes what Trump says.

I can't wait to see how you Pigsplain this one.

I think even Trump's followers have by now resigned themselves to the
stream of unconsciousness that his daily orations comprise. (How many,
do you suppose, believe their $5k check to be any more likely than a
Mexican funded border wall?) But the conspiracy theories were part of
his original cachet, with a lasting appeal to our paranoia. As I've
said, the issue isn't Trump, it's the lack of basic trust he's sown.

While ignoring everyone else, from the legacy media to the leftist politicians
to the communist activists, all of whose lies undermine institutions and public discourse.

The qualitative difference is that, when the press lies, it's news, but
when Trump lies, it's business as usual. You may not think that's an *important* qualitative difference, but I do. Otoh, who knows? Maybe there'll be an eventual backlash with lasting effect...

An old Leslie Nielsen joke and commie-whistling seems a vacuous

I didn't need a rephrasing, you were perfectly clear in your
attempt to manufacture a bandwagon. Whatever YOU and your comrades
think about Trump, he's actually DOING things that have only been
talked about for generations now: he's confronting Iran and Cuba
and Venezuela in a serious way and working to replace those horrid
regimes with some substantial success. That alone is more than
enough to earn him some credit with me, even if I don't agree with
    everything he's done.

You HAVE to be a "progressive" at least because I've never ever
heard you even question let alone criticize ANY aspect of their
beliefs. You've bent over backwards for years to defend the
indefensible to the point where the English language has been
tortured beyond what happened in Stalin's darkest dungeons and
that's pretty dark. Nobody does that unless they're a rabid leftist.

Umm, the question was whether you, or indeed anyone, believes Trump
    now.

The question is so vague as to be meaningless. Taken literally, you'd
have me believe that EVERYONE (in America? in the world?) thinks
every word out of Trump's mouth is a categorical lie. If he says
"Good morning", it's actually not morning. If he says "It's Monday",
it's some other day. That's preposterous on the face of it. Trump
retains supporters, some of whom presumably believe all or most of
what he says. That alone puts the lie to your claim.>
Meanwhile, I think that, say, female genital mutilation has a better
historical track record than communism.-a Must I endlessly shout it?

"FGM has a better historical track record than communism": for whom?
Certainly not the woman involved. You're comparing apples and
oranges. Both communism and FGM were cruelly devastating to their
victims. The only difference is the scale.

Apparently, my attempt at hyperbole didn't land.

Do you think I don't realize that you're calling me stupid

(Telling someone they're 'stupid' is self-contradictory.)

    , just because
your "argument" - to be extremely charitable - didn't make sense? The
first thing I learned when I was taking Train the Trainer courses is
that if the other person doesn't take your words the way you meant them,
the first person to look at is YOURSELF, rather than blaming the other person/people for being idiots. But an arrogant dick like you can't even conceive of the possibility that you failed to make your point well.
Perhaps, instead of FGM, I should've said 'bestiality'.

You're still not making sense. Bestiality, communism, and FGM are all
    awful.

So, you *did* get my point, but just want to think you made it.

Now let me get to my point a different way: cite just one thing that you believe that *differs* from "progressive".

Anyhow, maybe this will clarify some re Trump's lying:

    https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/11/trump-voters-like-lying-
    deception-feature/

Mother Jones? Seriously? Why not just quote the Communist Manifesto? If that's your go to for "truth", no wonder you're so extreme in your
    views....

You think Trump voters *don't* excuse his lying? I cited the article
only to show that the *fact* that he lies is no longer debated. Maybe
you can find one that says the accusations of lying are unfounded.

-a which imperils what little trust remains for

But it's Trump that's the problem here, you say.

Conflating Bias with Lying: Political science experts note that while mainstream media outlets often display distinct ideological or selective
slants in what they choose to highlight, reporting a slanted or

deliberate lie. Reputable outlets generally retract or correct factual

I didn't need a rephrasing, you were perfectly clear in your

You HAVE to be a "progressive" at least because I've never ever
heard you even question let alone criticize ANY aspect of their
beliefs. You've bent over backwards for years to defend the
indefensible to the point where the English language has been
tortured beyond what happened in Stalin's darkest dungeons and
that's pretty dark. Nobody does that unless they're a rabid leftist. >>>>>
Umm, the question was whether you, or indeed anyone, believes Trump >>>>> now.

The question is so vague as to be meaningless. Taken literally,
you'd have me believe that EVERYONE (in America? in the world?)
thinks every word out of Trump's mouth is a categorical lie. If he
says "Good morning", it's actually not morning. If he says "It's
Monday", it's some other day. That's preposterous on the face of it.
Trump retains supporters, some of whom presumably believe all or
most of what he says. That alone puts the lie to your claim.>
Meanwhile, I think that, say, female genital mutilation has a
better historical track record than communism.-a Must I endlessly
    shout it?

"FGM has a better historical track record than communism": for whom?
Certainly not the woman involved. You're comparing apples and
oranges. Both communism and FGM were cruelly devastating to their
victims. The only difference is the scale.

Apparently, my attempt at hyperbole didn't land.

Do you think I don't realize that you're calling me stupid

(Telling someone they're 'stupid' is self-contradictory.)

That assertion contains absolutely no logic at all so I will not debate
    it, just observe it.

The remark you made was "Apparently, my attempt at hyperbole didn't
land." That is just how you have chosen to tell me that I'm stupid
because, in your arrogant fashion, you believe yourself to be a purveyor
of Truth and unequaled eloquence so if anyone failed to grasp your
point, they must be intellectually dim.>

    , just because
your "argument" - to be extremely charitable - didn't make sense? The
first thing I learned when I was taking Train the Trainer courses is
that if the other person doesn't take your words the way you meant
them, the first person to look at is YOURSELF, rather than blaming the
other person/people for being idiots. But an arrogant dick like you
can't even conceive of the possibility that you failed to make your
    point well.
Perhaps, instead of FGM, I should've said 'bestiality'.

You're still not making sense. Bestiality, communism, and FGM are all
    awful.

So, you *did* get my point, but just want to think you made it.

Your point was that there are lots of evil things in the world? My
goodness this is a revelation of a profundity to shake the whole world.
You really need to get a major award of some kind for that insight! >
Now let me get to my point a different way: cite just one thing that
you believe that *differs* from "progressive".

Well, look at that: no reply to that little challenge. I can only take
this as an admission that you *are* "progressive". Quod Erat Demonstratum.

Anyhow, maybe this will clarify some re Trump's lying:

    https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/11/trump-voters-like-lying-

Mother Jones? Seriously? Why not just quote the Communist Manifesto?
If that's your go to for "truth", no wonder you're so extreme in your
    views....

You think Trump voters *don't* excuse his lying?-a I cited the article
only to show that the *fact* that he lies is no longer debated.-a Maybe
you can find one that says the accusations of lying are unfounded.

It's no longer debated by a far left rag like Mother Jones. I feel sure
there are plenty of outlets that would differ.

Wait a minute. Just yesterday you were claiming that
Hillary's election denials are of no consequence because no
one believes her, but Trump is a unique threat because so
many do believe him. Now you say you don't think anyone
believes what Trump says. I can't wait to see how you
    Pigsplain this one.

I think even Trump's followers have by now resigned themselves
to the stream of unconsciousness that his daily orations
comprise.-a (How many, do you suppose, believe their $5k check
to be any more likely than a Mexican funded border wall?)-a But
the conspiracy theories were part of his original cachet, with
a lasting appeal to our paranoia.-a As I've said, the issue
isn't Trump, it's the lack of basic trust he's sown.

While ignoring everyone else, from the legacy media to the
leftist politicians to the communist activists, all of whose
lies undermine institutions and public discourse.

The qualitative difference is that, when the press lies, it's
news, but when Trump lies, it's business as usual.

Horseshit! When the press lies, it's a day ending in "y". Trump
lying is a good bit less frequent.

This, from Google's AI, may be of help:

-a-a Conflating Bias with Lying: Political science experts note that while mainstream media outlets often display distinct ideological or selective slants in what they choose to highlight, reporting a slanted or
incomplete story is legally and definitionally different from a
deliberate lie. Reputable outlets generally retract or correct factual
errors when they are proven wrong.

So the media is *only* biased, not really lying through their teeth, at
least most of the time (the last sentence of the quote implicitly admits
that reputable outlets only "generally" retract or correct factual
errors, meaning that they don't always do so.) Well, I'm sure that's a wonderful achievement for them but it's hardly something to crow about.
There was a time the media were NOT supposed to put their thumb on the
scale by skewing coverage for or against the person they were reporting
on. Those days are clearly long gone: now the media proudly takes an oppositional stance - at least when Republicans are in office - while
covering for the government when Democrats are in office. Whoever
described media people as "Democrats with press passes" certainly had it right.

As for Trump, your lot have been entirely oblivious with respect to his trolling. On many occasions, he's clearly been saying preposterous
things just to get a rise out of you. As the host of Tousi TV is fond of saying "Take Trump seriously but not literally." You "progressives" are notoriously humourless and beclown yourselves by taking everything Trump
    says literally.

You may not think that's an *important* qualitative difference,
but I do.-a Otoh, who knows?-a Maybe there'll be an eventual
    backlash with lasting effect...

Trump is going to be out of office on Jan 20 2029, not eligible to
run again. That alone is going to end his major influence on
politics in your country. Presumably, given his age, he won't live
too far beyond that. Then you'll definitely have seen the end of
him. You only have to be patient.

    I don't like the precedents he's set.

"The evil that men do lives after them..." - Shakespeare

I didn't like some of the precedents Clinton, Obama and Biden set
either. So what? Subsequent presidents can reverse those precedents when
they get into office. That's the nature of politics in a democracy. The pendulum swings both left and right.

    Gaslighting about gaslighting!

I think raising the issue of getting a story wrong because of pressures
of the news cycle or because an event just occurred or a
general-assignment reporter lacks expertise has been raised as a
    distraction.

That a news story is written with political spin or failure to hide
political opinion or highly-selective reporting is what you are trying to discuss.

There have always been accusations of unconscious bias, but this is
conscious bias. That might belong in a clearly-labeled opinion piece but
is supposed to edited out, not edited in, of straight news.

    Well, I'm sure that's a
wonderful achievement for them but it's hardly something to crow about. >There was a time the media were NOT supposed to put their thumb on the

Well, the 19th century was dominated by newspapers associated with
political parties. Huge publishers like Hearst, Annenberg, McCormick,
clearly had a position. Did it influence story selection for straight
news? Absolutely. Were the stories themselves written neutrally? One
hopes but I'm sure there were bad examples.

I don't always think there are new problems.

As for Trump, your lot have been entirely oblivious with respect to his >trolling. On many occasions, he's clearly been saying preposterous

There are certainly policies implemented by Trump well beyond rhetoric.
Tariffs may have been a, er, strategy in international negotiation but
were actually implemented. And he did go after your country, even if you
did deserve a little bit of it.

Obama had an overreliance on executive orders in lieu of obtaining
legislation and set plenty of precedent for how Trump would govern.

So, you think that I'm making up recalling comparisons to Al
Gore? ...and that I actually ever believed she'd won?-a If only
such a partial escape from the dismal truth had been that easy...

    -a-aAgainst the

I didn't need a rephrasing, you were perfectly clear in your

Umm, the question was whether you, or indeed anyone, believes
    Trump now.

That's preposterous on the face of
it. Trump retains supporters, some of whom presumably believe all
or most of what he says. That alone puts the lie to your claim.>
Meanwhile, I think that, say, female genital mutilation has a
better historical track record than communism.-a Must I endlessly >>>>>> shout it?

"FGM has a better historical track record than communism": for
whom? Certainly not the woman involved. You're comparing apples and >>>>> oranges.

The logic is that a truly stupid person won't grasp the claim.

The
first thing I learned when I was taking Train the Trainer courses is
that if the other person doesn't take your words the way you meant
them, the first person to look at is YOURSELF, rather than blaming
the other person/people for being idiots. But an arrogant dick like
you can't even conceive of the possibility that you failed to make
    your point well.

My point was that my regard for Communism differs from yours only in my recognition of it as an idea that deserved investigation, and got it.

Now let me get to my point a different way: cite just one thing that
you believe that *differs* from "progressive".

Well, look at that: no reply to that little challenge. I can only take
this as an admission that you *are* "progressive". Quod Erat Demonstratum.

Well, though I know you'd never *ask*, perhaps you can *tell* me some Progressive ideals you're certain I espouse.

Anyhow, maybe this will clarify some re Trump's lying:

    https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/11/trump-voters-like-
    lying- deception-feature/

Mother Jones? Seriously? Why not just quote the Communist Manifesto?
If that's your go to for "truth", no wonder you're so extreme in your
    views....

You think Trump voters *don't* excuse his lying?-a I cited the article
only to show that the *fact* that he lies is no longer debated.-a Maybe
you can find one that says the accusations of lying are unfounded.

It's no longer debated by a far left rag like Mother Jones. I feel sure there are plenty of outlets that would differ.

Absolutely. Just waiting on that link...

-a which imperils what little trust remains for
    our once-cherished institutions.

Once again the Left condemns behavior that it blatantly >>>>>>>>>>>>> engages in itself.
Hell, it's the stated *goal* of the far-Left DSA candidates >>>>>>>>>>>>> that are being
elected to Congress from these deep-blue hellpits to >>>>>>>>>>>>> destroy Western
civilization and one of their main methods of doing so is >>>>>>>>>>>>> to bring down those
once-cherished institutions you're so worried about. They >>>>>>>>>>>>> advocate for
abolishing police, prisons, the Senate, the Supreme Court, >>>>>>>>>>>>> the Executive
    Branch... and on and on.

But it's Trump that's the problem here, you say.

Stop and remind yourself of recent "leftists" you've
encountered who've flatly declared Mamdani et al.
    unconscionable...

Wait a minute. Just yesterday you were claiming that Hillary's election
denials are of no consequence because no one believes her, but Trump is a
unique threat because so many do believe him.

Now you say you don't think anyone believes what Trump says.

I can't wait to see how you Pigsplain this one.

I think even Trump's followers have by now resigned themselves to the >>>> stream of unconsciousness that his daily orations comprise. While ignoring everyone else, from the legacy media to the leftist

to the communist activists, all of whose lies undermine institutions and >>> public discourse.

The qualitative difference is that, when the press lies, it's news, but
when Trump lies, it's business as usual.

    Hahahahahahaha!

Good one. The idea that media dishonesty is some rare unicorn that stuns us all with its uniqueness. Wow, you should take that act on the road.

Here's Google's AI (for whatever *it's* worth to you:

"According to The Washington Post Fact Checker, President Donald
Trump made 30,573 false or misleading claims across his first
presidential term, averaging 21 errors per day. Fact-checkers and news organizations, including CNN, have continued to document frequent
inaccurate or misleading statements during his campaigns and his return
    to office."
