• [OT] Who do you send: police or mental health workers?

    The "progressives" seem to be believe police are counter-productive and
    want to send out mental health workers instead to deal with troublesome individuals. Here's a video with a guy who's clearly got mental health
    issues:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWQ1WKZDktE [34 minutes]

    How well do you think a mental health worker would have done with this guy?

    By the time we get to the end:
    he's denied every legal argument the cops have put forward by asserting
    the opposite;
    insisted that the woman claiming to be his mother (and standing right
    there) is not his mother;
    said that he was going to come outside but then refused;
    said that he was going to get in the police car but then did the exact opposite;
    said that he belonged to a cult (but that cults had a bad rap);
    he's seriously injured at least one officer.

    What magic words would the mental health worker have said to get the guy
    to calmly come to a mental health facility to be treated?

    I think the Sergeant presenting the video had the best idea: sedate him
    and haul him away. He talked about sedating the guy after he was in
    cuffs but maybe hitting him with a tranquilizer dart like they use with
    wild animals would have been a whole lot easier and wasted a lot fewer resources like police time and medical care for the injured officer.

    Given his size, I'm actually surprised that they didn't end up having to
    shoot him just to save their own lives.
