Yeah, I just saw that same story and watched the same video. Infuriating!

I'm surprised how calm the president of the synagogue was in the
interview considering the circumstances. I'm also pleasantly surprised
that the police had the synagogue under active surveillance; I hadn't
expected pro-active measures to be in place. Looking for further stories....

It seems the shooter is 29 and was using a shotgun. The cop is in "critical-stable" condition and the shooter is in life-threatening
    condition.

It's only a very new story so no identification of the shooter or his
motive yet. There are some pretty obvious guesses but nothing confirmed
    yet.

This article contradicts the other story and said the shooter had a
rifle even though both stories cited the same source, the SIU, which has responsibility for office-involved shootings. It also explains that the congregation had requested the police presence so it wasn't a case of
the police being pro-active; it's not clear if the congregation had to
pay for that protection or the police just did it on request.

I don't know Belleville well - I've driven past it but I don't recall if
I've ever stopped there - but I hadn't known they even had a Jewish
community. I wonder if they've been the recipient of some "cultural
diversity" over the past few years? Of course the shooter might have
come in from out of town too.

This is obviously not the first such incident to affect a synagogue so I
can only imagine how uneasy Jews everywhere are, even in supposedly
"safe" countries like Canada, the US, and the UK. What a horrible thing
    to have to life with!

I won't be sad if the shooter has an early trip to Allah and saves the taxpayers the cost of further hospital treatment, a court trial and incarceration....
