Prime Video has pulled the plug on one of its most-watched
originals of the summer. The streamer declined to renew the spy
comedy starring Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer for a
second season. Paramount Television Studios now shops the
series to other buyers.

Ride or Die canceled after Season 1 by Prime Video
The cancellation baffles many because Ride or Die had strong
numbers. The show premiered on July 15 with a lighter marketing
push than Prime Video gave its YA slate, which included Elle,
Off Campus, Every Year After, and Sterling Point. All of those
shows were renewed, yet Ride or Die still outperformed them.

Luminate data shows the series logged 927K views in its first
two days, doubling Elle's 477K and nearly quadrupling Off
Campus's 245K. It claimed the No. 1 daily U.S. ranking, beating
even the big-budget film Masters of the Universe. On Nielsen's
weekly charts, it debuted at No. 8 overall and No. 3 among
originals with 869 million minutes viewed, then climbed to
No. 4 overall and No. 2 among originals in week two with
922 million minutes (via Deadline).

Globally, Ride or Die held the No. 1 spot among Prime Video
originals for three straight weeks. Two months later, it still
sits in the platform's Global Top 10. Critics and audiences
responded too, giving it 96% and 85% scores on Rotten Tomatoes.

Moreover, the decision stings because Ride or Die came in under
budget and ended Season 1 on cliffhangers built for a follow-up.
For fans, Paramount Television now shops Ride or Die to other
platforms, and the show's strong global performance gives it a
real shot.

Created by Tessa Coates, the series follows Debbie Claybourne
(Spencer) and Judith Burton (Waddingham), best friends whose
lives unravel when Judith's past as an international assassin

That's too bad. It was pretty sweet cotton cancy. Fun actresses. Lots of
light pathos. Oh well, I will probably forget that it ever existed or that
I had ever heard of it or watched it even though I watched all the
episodes. It was very well produced and written and acted and it was very pretty and very European.
