Superman was the worst. He didn't even wear a mask. The only difference
between his face and Clark Kent's face was the glasses, for gawd's sweet sake.

That was bad enough in the 50s. Now with facial recognition software, you'd think his "secret identity" would be outed in milliseconds even if the
    people
around him were so galactically stupid they didn't recognize the guy
    working
right next to them whenever they saw Superman on the news.

All of the attempts to fix it have been worse than nothing. There was the quickly aborted idea that he used super hypnotism to make everybody see him as someone else. And John ByrnerCOs terrible reboot had him super vibrate his face so you could see him just looking at him normally but he couldnrCOt be photographed. HerCOd just come out as a blur. Honestly, I think if every photograph of Superman had his face as a blur that would scare me more than anything else.

Yeah, no kidding. I'm immediately starting to think 'vampire' if that
    happens.

They've addressed this a few times, though never convincingly.
One explanation, during the time when writers gave Superman new
powers at random, was that he used superhypnotism.

Superman mind-controlling people makes Superman a bad guy and a serious threat to humanity no matter what his justification for it.

    Another was
that he used superspeed to blur his face slightly whenever he
detected cameras, so there were no good pictures of him (but most
of the Daily Planet staff had met him in both guises).

Yet people *did* see him on the news and in interviews with Lois Lane, etc.
and no one ever said, "Hey, Superman, why is your face an amorphous blur?" which, as anim8r said, would be more disturbing than anything else.

In the end, I think we just have to accept it as part of the
comic book premise. The goofiest example I know is Super
President, in which everyone is unable to recognize the President
of the United States. I guess Super President at least has a
    mask, but still.

I'm not sure why they even bothered with these rationalizations.
