For some reason, this came up on my feed just now. It's about a mass
shooter at an In-n-out burger place in Idaho who got engaged by a
civilian before the police arrived:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pViE2p5d9G4 [14 minutes]
I think the presenter makes many good points but I have to admit I'm
puzzled about why the good guy who was trying to take out the mass
shooter had a suppressor on his pistol. I don't know a lot about
suppressors (otherwise known as silencers) but I thought all a
suppressor did was make the shot *somewhat* quieter. As far as I know,
it doesn't make the gun any more lethal by increasing the muzzle
velocity, improving the accuracy or anything like that.
Does someone who knows more about guns have a guess about why he'd use a suppressor?

Saves your hearing. You can keep better situational awareness when you're not >being deafened by your own gunfire.
Guy was using a FN 5.7x28 pistol. It's an interesting choice. I mean, we know >that round can be effective because that's what the Fort Hood shooter used, >but it's not widely regarded as an effective self defense load. Gutsy to go up >against someone armed with an AR with that.

Wow, talk about a target-rich environment! He could shoot boxes and
boxes of ammo without ever having to replace a target!
I was shocked to see a .22 doing so much damage to a cinder block. I've
seen a few other shooting videos but I never saw such a small round do
that much damage. I've always thought of a .22 as barely lethal and only
at close range based on TV dramas and the videos I've seen but anything
that could do that much to a cinder block is certainly going to be
lethal to a person....

LOL. I should find those animated videos that go into various weapons.
One discusses various ammo and the extensive variations available such
as for .22 or shotgun shells.

Enjoy.. Unfortunately he doesn't go into the variations on .22s.

blurry footage! Oh wait, the Wikipedia article says the USSS uses that
pistol so you are presumably quite familiar with it and therefore
recognize it more easily. Still, there are an awful lot of pistols that
look like that with the differences being too subtle to distinguish for
an untrained guy like me.
What IrCOve learned from the legacy corporate media about guys like this:
(1) Gun owners who involve themselves in situations like this are untrained yahoos who imagine themselves to be John Wick and are dangerous to innocent bystanders and probably shouldn't even be allowed to own guns at all.
(2) Gun owners who do train are crazy unstable psychos living out their Call of Duty fantasies and are just itching to shoot someone, so they probably shouldn't even be allowed to own guns at all.
