There are local bylaws in each of the neighbouring towns that are
different from each other so if you can't light - or buy - fireworks in
one town, just drive a couple of miles down the road and get rules that
suit you better. I think there are also rules on what kind of fireworks
can be purchased; those probably vary from town to town too.
I learned of one where a home invader kept a woman captive for hours
inside her own home, beating and raping her. She was able to call 911
twice. On both occasions, a cop car was sent. The cops cruised past her >house and decided everything looked normal from the outside. They didn't >even bother knocking. They did that *twice*.

Maybe not even then. The Supreme Court has ruled that police have an

remember any details about the situation - and the court found no
obligation for the police to respond so the suit failed. I found that
very surprising and disheartening. I get that they can't respond to
every little thing instantaneously and in force but the idea that they
don't have to make any effort at all boggles my mind.

It turns out 911 here is unionized, and they gathered to protect her. I >donrCOt know if they gave her the shiv she deserved or if they ever caught >the bad guys.
Good point; maybe I should have said someone made a transphobic remark
as they were setting off the fireworks. That probably would have got the >SWAT team out....
By the way, I walked down the laneway where it must have happened - just
on the other side of the privacy fence at the back of my property - this >morning and didn't see any remnants of fireworks or shell casings. Of
course I could be mistaken as to the exact location.
