Netflix & Shawn Levy Team up for Live-Action Adaptation
of Major Gaming IP

Netflix is reportedly expanding its video game adaptation slate with
Shawn Levy. The streamer is developing a live-action series based on
a beloved Japanese role-playing franchise, tapping one of its most
successful production partners to bring it to the screen.

Persona live-action TV series in the works at Netflix
Christopher Monfette has been tapped to write the live-action
Persona series and will work as executive producer and showrunner,
Variety reported, citing sources. Monfette's previous credits
include writing for 12 Monkeys, Star Trek: Picard, and 9-1-1. He is
also attached as a writer and co-executive producer on the upcoming
Marvel Disney+ series VisionQuest.

Levy, Dan Levine, and Robert Atwood will executive produce through
their 21 Laps banner, the company behind Netflix's global phenomenon
Stranger Things. Story Kitchen's Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I.
Stevenson, and Michael Lawrence Goldberg also join as executive
producers, alongside SEGA's Toru Nakahara. 21 Laps currently holds
an overall TV deal with Netflix, and Emily Feher is said to be
overseeing the project for the company.

The Persona franchise has earned a devoted global following since
its 1996 debut with Revelations: Persona. The game series spans six
main entries and 15 spinoffs, according to the outlet. Its stories
typically center on Japanese high school students balancing everyday
routines and friendships with battles against supernatural forces.

The franchise continues to grow. A seventh mainline entry, Persona 6,
was reportedly confirmed to be in development in June 2026. The most
recent release, Persona 5: The Phantom X, launched in 2025, while
Persona 4 Revival is scheduled for February 2027.

Now, this adaptation would join Netflix's growing roster of video
game-based movies or series. The streamer has already found success
with The Witcher, Arcane, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Tomb Raider:
The Legend of Lara Croft.

21 Laps recently wrapped the fifth and final season of Stranger
Things, a series that helped establish Netflix originals as cultural
juggernauts. Shawn Levy also directed and co-wrote the blockbuster
Deadpool & Wolverine, while the company produced the recent hit film
Backrooms.
