Yesterday, House Republicans voted to overturn a D.C. City Council ordinance allowing non-citizens to vote in DC city elections.
148 House Democrats voted against to allow non-citizens to cast ballots in our
    nation's capital.

Only American citizens should decide the outcome of American elections. Yet the D.C. City Council (and now 148 Democrat members of Congress) have made it clear they actually want non-citizens and even foreign adversaries to have an equal say in choosing the mayor and other local public officials in the nation's capital.

What should in any sane society have been a decisive and bipartisan vote to overturn the Council's idiotic resolution and reaffirm a basic principle of the democracy that Democrats are always worried is under threat-- to ensure only American citizens can vote in American elections-- instead turned into 148 Democrats voting to invite foreign influence in our elections, cancel out the legitimate votes of American citizens, and weaken the foundation of the democratic process. These people are no longer just wrong-- they're dangerous.

Thankfully those 148 Democrats were outvoted by 210 Republicans and 56 of the more sane Democrats. Next up: the House votes to dismantle DC's sanctuary city
    laws.

I 'memba when San Francisco allowed non-citizens to vote for local school board seats, and FPP reassured us-- using a lot of profanity and randomly capitalized words-- that this sort of thing would never happen, that the Democrats are not in favor of foreign nationals influencing our elections-- yet here we are having to beat back Democrat attempts to allow not just foreign nationals but illegal alien foreign nationals to cancel out the votes of American citizens and determine how things are run in America. I just don't
understand what's happening here. I mean, FPP is never wrong about anything. After all, he told us so many, many times.

Oh, look! Another push for giving illegals the right to vote, this time here
in L.A. This is incomprehensible. I mean, Effa Pee Pee guaranteed me this
would never happen and he was literally never wrong about anything. If you asked him, he'd certainly tell you so.

This is exactly the kind of creep I said would happen last time this came up. It was just a few people in San Frnacisco then, now it's a chunk of the House of Representatives and a significant number of Dem presidential candidates, including the the 2024 front-runner.

Yesterday it was just school board elections. Now it's "Well, they're already voting in school board elections, so why not city council?"

Then it'll be "Well, they're already voting in school board and city council elections, so why not county commissioner?"

Then it'll be "Well, they're already voting in school board, city council, and county commissioner elections, so why not State Assembly?"

Then it'll be "Well, they're already voting in school board, city council, county commissioner, and State Assembly elections, so why not State Senate?"

Then it'll be "Well, they're already voting in school board, city council, county commissioner, State Assembly, and State Senate elections, so why not governor?"

Then it'll be "Well, they're already voting in school board, city council, county commissioner, State Assembly, State Senate, and gubernatorial
elections, so why not House of Representatives?"

Then it'll be "Well, they're already voting in school board, city council, county commissioner, State Assembly, State Senate, gubernatorial, and House elections, so why not U.S. Senate?"

Then it'll be "Well, they're already voting in school board, city council, county commissioner, State Assembly, State Senate, gubernatorial, and House
and Senate elections, so why not president?"

The fact that illegals are voting *at all* should be a huge warning sign that Open Borders crowd is on the march again.

He's been sick for a number of years and truly should have retired three
terms ago. With long-time incumbamts, even when sick, it's highly
unlikely that they get a credible primary challenger.

But no, voters in my state don't even demand a candidate who is healthy
enough to represent them if a long-time incumbant.

The most recent Congressional death was another long-time incumbant who
not only knew he didn't have another term in him, he couldn't complete
the current term. He died before the primary. I don't think there was a nomination.

Agreed - my father lived in Canada for 15 years before becoming a
citizen and was unable to vote.

Ironically what FINALLY got him to seek citizenship was when he wanted
to purchase a commercial fishing boat (which was barred to
non-citizens). I don't remember the detailed but they came to Canada
when I was 3 and we went to Citizenship court to see Dad swear his
oath when I was in 11th grade. (My mother sought permission from the
vice principal to take me out of school that day and the vice
principal laughed saying "He'll probably learn more in citizenship
court than he would in a regular day at school - get him to see his
teachers about getting his homework assignments and he'll be fine)

I just assumed when I heard "Reconstruction" a really bad joke was
    being made.

For what it's worth, the last widow of a US Civil War veteran only
died within the last 20 years - way back when it was not unheard of
for ancient Civil War vets to marry a very young woman (usually a
sibling's granddaughter or granddaughter of a friend) the intent being
to gift her the war widow's pension. Marriages where there was a 65-70
year age gap weren't unheard of
