I find myself looking at the first forty lines of postings which have quintuple nesting, and not a new comment in sight.
I'm old and life is to short to scroll down multiple pages to see one or
two lines of response to the very last lines of the previous post.

skill of 'snipping' has been lost, along with the idea that bandwidth is precious and should be used parsimoniously.

I've been assuming it was the custom in this newsgroup to
include everything because of the way people tend to
intersperse one-liner reactions to more than one thing on
the way down.

That's okay, but I'm specifically talking about a 50-line (or more!) >inclusion with a one-line response to the last two lines or so.

inclusion with a one-line response to the last two lines or so.
But ... but ... but ... that would change the "number of lines"
rankings at the end of the month.

I surmise that most people are using a GUI news reader, probably a web >browser. Using gnus, I'm posting in my regular text editor that i use
for email, memos, writing etc. I find trying to edit something in a
GUI a total PITA. If possible, when confronted with a need to do so,
I create the text in the text editor, delete everthing from the GUI
pane and paste in the new text.
