The Collected Stories of Arthur C. Clarke, Part 2 (stories 27-52, out of
    104)

This is the second report on rCLThe Collected Stories of Arthur C. ClarkerCY published in 2001 by Tor
    https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?301215

There are 104 stories here, and they take up 966 pages. I recently
finished stories 27-52, which seems like a good time to post the second report. (The first report was posted 8/13/25.) If you look at the table
of contents I linked to above, rCLThe Road to the SearCY = story #27, and rCLThe Reluctant OrchidrCY = story #52.

As mentioned in my first report, thererCOs a nice little two-page forward
to the whole volume by Clarke, and the stories are arranged in
publication order. The vast majority of stories (so far?) come with an intro/blurb written by him as well, and they definitely add value, at
    least for me.

No surprise to anyone, but there's a lot of great stuff here, and I'm
    really enjoying it.

Just a few thoughts about a few of these 26 stories:
rCLThe Road to the SearCY was excellent.

rCLThe SentinelrCY is well-known as the rCLprecursorrCY to 2001.

The original novella rCLEarthlightrCY was also excellent. I re-read the
novel version right after reading the novella. These two might contain
the only battle scene Clarke ever wrote. (The scene is very similar in
    both versions.)

In rCLAll the Time in the WorldrCY, from 1951, Clarke mentions a rCLsingularity in timerCY.

Per Clarke himself, rCLEncounter in the DawnrCY inspired the opening
    sequence of the film 2001.

Again per Clarke, rCLRefugeerCY may have been published under four different titles - he said Boucher originally published it as rCL?rCY because he (Boucher) didnrCOt like ClarkerCOs title, and Boucher ran a contest to name it. The winning title was rCLThis Earth of MajestyrCY. Then later, it
appeared somewhere else titled rCLRoyal PrerogativerCY.

rCLThe StarrCY is in this group of 26, and finally rCLVenture to the MoonrCY is
sort of a fix-up novelette(?), as it pulls together 6
independent-but-linked 1500 word stories about the first researchers
    living on the moon.

IrCOm not sure when IrCOll read the next 26 (#53 is rCYMoving SpiritrCY, #78 is
    rCLLove That UniverserCY).

    Big snip

I have owned that for 26 years and never read it cover to cover. Too damn
    big.

I seem to recall at the least the first printing was riddled with errors.

Same here - this thing is heavy. Even breaking it into 26-story chunks
has been challenging, but it helps that the stories have been pretty
    darn good.

Yeah, it does have a decent amount of typos. I'm not familiar enough
with most of these stories that I could detect missing paragraphs or
    pages or other errors.

IMHO, the purpose of a volume like that is not to read it cover-to-cover (though Lord knows I do that with my collected short stories of W.
Somerset Maugham in four volumes every few years, and also my collected
Solar Pons stories in eleven volumes), but to provide the ability to
read any Arthur C. Clarke story that might strike your fancy.

Indeed. I also tend to sprinkle a small number of stories between
finishing one novel/novella and starting another.

Thanks for the reminder. It's been about five years.

Eleven volumes! I believe I have one.

but to provide the ability to
read any Arthur C. Clarke story that might strike your fancy.

I read the Clarke, the Cordwainer Smith, and the Bradbury collections
straight through. But I'm not sure my wrists would be up to that nowadays.
