"At a wireless-industry event, Brendan Carr gives a shout-out to Amazon
and AST SpaceMobile."
Why ? We will have a million satellites whizzing around at a 100 miles up.
As much as I dislike Brendan Carr and the whole engineer-free current
FCC management, I have to say that I do side with him on this. We need competition because competition is what brings rates down.
Or we could have a regulated monopoly, but that doesn't work for systems
that are international and too large for one country to regulate effectively.
LEO satellite internet is too important to rely on one unregulated provider, especially one that has proven themselves to be flaky.
But you do make a good point that there's already a lot of junk in LEO and
it needs to be managed and coordinated. And to my mind that's another thing that competition will improve.
