Hi fellow denizens of SF.written.
Someone mentioned another newer book titled "Language of the Night"
by another author and found this which I had read this long ago. I have
reread it and it holds up very well considering it is -- 1979 by Susan Wood.
It is collection of essays on Fantasy and Science Fiction now subsumed under Speculative Fiction. LeGuin wrote very well and had been doing
it since she was a preteen. She points out that people asked her often
how to become a writer or a SF writer. The answer is that writers
write while wannbes ask how to become a writer. She wrote fantasy
as naturally as I write notes about books.
I dunno if you can find it for sale or even free online but if
you cannot afford old books then you might try a public library.
I recommend this book very highly for students of SF.
I did not remember that Ursula had died in 2018 but in
2018 I likely had a lot on my plate. I did not expect her to
be alive but she was a redoubtable presence in the SF world.
